edit: as I get older AND just flat-out drive more/longer, I have started to really appreciate the suspension tuned-for-the-street magic carpet ride thing. 10years ago, I liked ‘em as loud and rough as can be served up. As a track/street compromise, the .2 gt3 suspension setup is Goldilocks imo. In pure road-car use, in my “old age”, the slightly softer/squishier feel of the R suspension is what I’d gravitate towards. So, in fairness, it would just depend on if I planned on dragging it on track occasionally. If so, I’d vote for the .2 gt3 feel; if 100% road, the R.
As much as I bag on the 991 gen for it’s overall sterile/numb character, man, porsche did truly NAIL this GT gen with so many different flavors tuned to a given customer’s preferences. They all start out as INSANELY capable/reliable/useable machines; each variation is just a few clicks of the dial to the left or right, depending on its target audience. I could be happy with ANY of the 991 gen and I also can pick a different winner based on however I intended to use the car. Which again, is why Porsche nailed this gen of GT’s so well. I think in most of the other “GT gen’s”, there are more clear pecking orders/ rankings. There might be a LITTLE wiggle in how most would rank the various cars in other gen’s but none with anywhere close to as much diversity of opinion as 991. I think that is a testament to how well Porsche designed every car and how each is tuned ever so slightly left or right to make it a better road/track/all-in-one/screamer/torque-monster/wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing/race-car-look/etc/etc.

"Yesterday, December 7, 1941 a date which will live in infamy the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan...." Although FDR asked Congress for a Declaration of War, I started this thread by asking that the battle not be started anew. Further, I did NOT compare the first 911R series, the 964RS and the second 911R series to each other, I simply stated which three Porsche "call[ed] to me more than any others" without saying why and without any attempt to make any comparisons.
And a genuine appreciation on what you are doing and sharing Mr. Linton - I think there might not be a second person on Rennlist having such a courage to do the changes you are doing - and this statement is ignoring for a moment your top engineering skills and single-minded focus.

Couldn’t get the R, and passed on the Touring was redundant to my RS and wouldn’t have drove it much. Like both cars, but MSRP is what the VIPs paid 186k did well if they kept or sold case closed. The buyer on the end of the last flip typically gets screwed. GT2RS was 250k over GT3RS was 100k over, Speedsters we’re 200k over, and now all at MSRP or lower. R is still 100k of MSRP vs all listed, and it’s a 4 year old car. We’re all blessed to own these cars, and sure why so many debate other Porsche owners on their choice it’s just a car drive and have fun.

I agree a “greatest hits” between R and manual .2 would be THE undisputed road-oriented 991 champion in my book (I’d still take a 3rs or 2rs for more a more track-heavy focus). But maybe we’d all have a different wish list to pick from each car. The engine from .2 is the most obvious .2 winner imo. From the R, I actually think the suspension tune-for-the-street and LWFW would be my two wish list items. While there is a little difference in feel on the gearbox, I’d flip a quarter to decide which I prefer.

I think a bare tub 991 build would be fun. Target weight 2800lbs with a full extended tank.

^. Congrats on your new ride. Looks awesome.....look forward to your thoughts once you drive it. I believe that the only”value” in any of these cars comes when you are in the seat driving. And this one provides a fantastic driving experience for some. Good luck
