If someone want to convert his 991.1 GT3 RS to manual I would be willing to exchange parts with a 991 R and split costs of conversion
The result would be 2 unique cars...

was going to say the same thing. lots of guys -- heck, lots of guys on rennlist even -- have collections and can move from one car to another. that doesn't make them great drivers. i know some that are downright horrible drivers in fact.

don't we have a guy here who converted his 3RS to manual? a 2RS in manual would also be uber cool.

its been a while since this thread was discussed.........May of 2020..............seems R values have shifted up in a big way since then................anyone want to chime in? I would love to hear from people who know way more than i do. But firsthand over the last month i have been hunting for an R and the very few i have found (on and off market) that have sold have been for some wild numbers, and I am having trouble finding one anywhere close to the numbers i could have paid 6 months ago, if i can find any at all.

I certainly don't want to reignite the R v Touring discussion of 2016-2017. But with some perspective I will reiterate. The Touring is a fantastic 911and I recommend to friends not only to keep their Touring, but to buy one if they don't own one. The 992 GT3 is coming. But the car is big. The feel and instrumentation are more digital and gets farther and farther away from the original reason why we like these cars in the first place. The 911R is special and remains even more so. It's more than likely the last truly special 911 Porsche will ever make. My experience is almost every RS, GT3, Speedster and 959 since 1980. And I drive and use everything including the 959. The R, to me, is the modern incarnation of the 964 RS. Look no further than the recent GT car test done buy Matt Farah for Road & Track. Probably all R owners, that turned down gobs of money initially are pretty happy with their car and it's not for sale. I know that Champion just sold a white/red for approx. $350k. I know of no others. I would call the big dealers, leave your name, watch the auctions and act fast. There are just not that many cars. One more thing, I wouldn't turn down a normal flywheel car. Yes, the LWFW is better but the car is the sum of all of its parts. The flywheel can be changed and even though I've never driven one with the "heavier" flywheel I suspect it's not the only "special sauce" as many think. I'm fairly confident that it's not as different as in a 964RS or even the 997 RS.

What's your thoughts on a 964 RS? That's next on my wish list, but based on reputation. I daily a GT3T, and wouldn't mind something a little rawer but slower (that feels faster)....80% of the time I drive the Touring I don't have enough road to fully enjoy it.

964RS? Maybe the greatest 911 (street) experience of all time, at least for me. But there's no factory A/C, except for the one (and possibly only) that Canepa was recently selling. Electric air is a possibility but not OEM??? There's no undercoat so weather and street conditions are an issue. I love seats but know every pound I've gained so everyone doesn't fit. The 993RS has air, radio, wing and more useable but just not as pure as narrow body (light) 964RS and even though (the 993) is a 3.8 the 3.6 is just as fast. The good news is there 2000+ cars out there and always some for sale in various states of condition and prices. But it's not for everyone. And even I didn't drive it all that often. It's the only car I ever regretted selling but I bought and sold the same car twice, so?? The 911R stays no matter what and is the only "big" 911 I still own.

964rs is a riot. Lotta fun. Suspension is a bit overly harsh for any long drive but they sorted that in the 3.8 from what I understand (and similar mods can be done to the 3.6 without the 2-comma entry price!). That's my ONLY complaint. Otherwise it's one of my favorite 911s I've owned.
