Default Conundrum..

Hi All, I've put a related question to the 997 GT forum recently and am posting this question for some balance. Which car would be recommended - 997 GT3 RS or 991.2 GT3 manual? I'd like a special car but not one that is too special to use and enjoy.... Thanks so much!

You didn’t say whether 997.1 or .2, but all are great (including 991 Manual). Newer car faster, but older car has better steering feel and more nimble size.

Just comes down to personal preference and what’s important to you.

That's akin to asking would you rather have Heidi Klum or Marisa Miller in their prime?

If you plan to buy a car and drive it, e.g. use it, then you are already ahead. Since you asked about two cars that are both manual, is that a must have for you? What else is a must have, for example color, options, etc.? More information regarding exactly what you expect from the car and how you plan to use it will help people narrow feedback.

Through your research you will find many opinions regarding both cars. It is safe to say you will find a plethora of positive feedback. Ultimately, none of that matters because it will be your car and you need to determine for yourself if the steering and other driving characteristics meet your expectations. You should drive both and determine which suites you. Then buy that car and don't look back.

Good luck!

The 997 is more raw, if that’s what you are looking for then that’s the car to have. The 991’s are more of a cruiser, Porsche had made the easier to deal with on a daily basis. noise, vibration is all amped up in the 997. I really like my 991.2 but also miss my old the 997.2 GT3.

I recommend you just get the car you like and drive it. Don't worry about it being "too" special. In the end it's all down to what it means to you.

I met a guy in Indianapolis that would often drive around the city in a Ferrari 250 GTO. Yes, the real deal. He loved his car and loved driving it—and so he did!

Live a little—or even a lot.

997 if you want something to take out less often and really get a pure or less refined driving experience. 991 if you want to use it more, have a more refined chassis, and be quicker.

It's interesting how everything older is "more raw" and the new 991 is "more of a cruiser". Have you driven a 997.2 gt3rs and a 991.2 gt3rs? I love them both for different reasons and am a huge sucker for manuals.

But to me "more raw" to me would mean out of the box it's stiffer, more volatile/peaky engine, louder, less nannies, sharper, less comfortable, lighter. Outside of the manual being gone, The new 991.2gt3rs is only less "raw" in the sense thats it's slightly heavier. both have nannies, but the 991.2 gt3rs is much stiffer, louder, sharper, peakier crazy engine so imo much less comfortable which translates to "raw". But I get it, in 2010 the "raw" cars were 993's, still are, but u get the point. Nothing new is really ever "raw" by enthusiasts standards

The 997.2 gt3rs is a little lighter as I said and has a more volatile handling as it's on a much smaller footprint. But really it just has less grip, it's not on a small wb by any means either. The 997 is considerably softer, and steering not as good imo, the biggest difference I noticed is really how much more narrow the 997's were which made them feel even lighter. They def feel light on their feet and more prone to slide. Back end def would come around easier on them as it was more rear weight biased for sure.

So honestly on a "raw" standpoint, the 991.2 gt3rs for some reason does not get the credit it probably deserves. It is 100x as "raw" as my 993 and makes my M4 feel like a cadillac.

Comparing the 2 on "rawness" I really have arguments for both. The 997.2 has more volatile handling and has the most epic manual probably ever produced, but the 991.2 is much stiffer, much louder, faster, peakier engine. it really is much much more racecar imo.

All that being said, I would give the winner on "fun" to the 997 no doubt. 997 gt3 rs is a 10/10 on fun

Also, on a side note and to add on. My 991.2 gt3rs lwb seats shake/vibrate fairly violently if no one is sitting in passenger seat at idle hahaha . Maybe I should post a video of that, I don't know if it's normal, I have never ever had a car's seats vibrate this much at idle. Also never had these lwb before. 993 kind of whole car shakes at idle but doesn't vibrate now that i think of it, I dont know Porsches are funny maybe it's a porsche thing....

991.2 and the Rear Wheel steering is the car to choose.
It makes a good driver better.

My 997.2 GT3 was a real handful on bumpy back roads where the rear end gets thrown. Especially when approaching light speed on sweeping high speed curves with unsettling road conditions The 991.2 would not do this and behaves better for good drivers

I met Marisa Miller at an appearance in a Chicago suburb a bunch of years ago and my first thought when seeing her was, man she could use a cheeseburger and a milkshake. Just a bit too thin but still pretty dynamite.

“Glad” to hear mine isn’t the only one that does this.

my passenger seat amongst other items seems to shake / vibrate.

love the car but it has more rattles / buzzes than any other sport cars I’ve owned. Aka: character
