Default Colored PDK Shifter Base Project For Those Interested...

I would like to get the two lines in the PDK shifter base to match my exterior color. Just like in the Lizard Green car. Let's see for those interested if we can contribute/collaborate to get this done. It appears it would be extremely difficult (to me) to get a colored vinyl wrap in there with those contours. It also seems tricky to get the shifter plate out as well. When you do, it doesn't seem practical to paint them either. Looks like the Lizard Green color was part of the mould making injection process or whatever. Any ideas? I think this would look great if it's possible.

Go to a wrap shop with the best reputation in town.

They should be able to pop the trim out and wrap over the black.

I would imagine the paint route would cost significantly more, and take more time. Either way, it's absolutely doable.

Seems easy enough. Those stripes are a depression. Pop the plate/trim out and use acrylic or epoxy paint in a needle applicator to fill in with whatever color you want. Just like how they do when making these pins. Go to the 4:00 mark:

Thank you for that. Let's start with the removal of the plate. Anyone done that or know how to? To me it looks like the PDK shifter has to be removed to get that cover off and over the top of it. Doesn't look like anyway around that. Unless I'm missing something.

Thank you for that. Going to talk to the dealer and see on the outside chance if this is something I could get done through Exclusive Manufaktur. I really don't want to mess with ink pens and wraps etc.., If I have to, I might order a spare cover plate and see how it goes with these other procedures. Once done and satisfied then install. Don't want to say it can't cost much. When you do, that's when you get sticker shock.

UPDATE: Just emailed the guy I work with at Porsche parts and told him what I wanted. I also said I'd give him a $100 tip if he could get it and/or make it happen. So he's got extra incentive. I'll follow up when I hear back as I know there are a few interested in this.

Yes. Unfortunately the parts guy I work with at Gaudin Porsche in Las Vegas has had zero luck and basically said it's not going to happen. But alas, I have a back up plan. I just ordered the PDK shift trim cover. Upon inspection with a magnifying glass. It looks like the black plastic is snapped in or attached from underneath. If that's the case and it can be easily removed from the bottom. It also means it can easily be painted and put back in. I think it's going to work. I just need to get the cover first. I'll know in the next week or so. If that's not the case. I will have a cover to try another idea to get this to work. I'm committed to making this work. Would love to and share it on here with everyone.

The GT2RS with red alcantera interior has this area in red. My car is red, I’m too lazy to get this done.

Yes, part will be here next week. Then I'm going to check if my theory is correct.

I will post full close up pics once it arrives.

Yes, the piece slides out and the strips are easy to paint--or in my case--covered with a wrap.
