Default Another oil tank failure

Second failed oil tank on 991.2 GT3. Last one replaced under warranty last year, 2 months off the road. Exactly the same failure this time - a pinhole through a spot weld, exactly the same spot weld. Will post photos once received...

Can you patch the leak with something so car can still be driven while waiting for part/service?

Engine had to come out to confirm the location of the leak.

Part was ordered and arrived after about 10 days this time. Unfortunately, it is the identical part so my dealership are discussing with Porsche the possibility of a modification since there were identical pin holes in both tanks.

Where under the car would you notice the leak? Left, middle, right?

Tank is on the right side (closer to front of undertray). You can take a cell phone pic of the undertray just below the tank (to see if it's dry) without removing the tray or jacking the car (just behind the right rear tire).

Here's an example (not the best pic, but it's dry underneath, if a bit dirty...). You can see the welded seem on the right curving up:

Thank you. I guess I have a different problem. Had the first oil change on Tuesday and now have this large oil stain today.

A drip in that area could be from the mechanic filling in the new oil too fast - it is easy to do this and have some overflow in that area. If this is what happened, that should improve on its own in a short time...

You could also jack the rear of the car and have a look and see if it's wet - might be able to dry it with a rag, as it's best not to have oil on the exhaust there.

Exactly, the oil tank is on the right hand side looking from the rear - though the oil had spread around somewhat by the time I noticed a drip on the floor, the drip was also on the right hand side.

Grant, you were right on. Just got back from the dealer and the problem was exactly what you described. Thanks again

Seems like you could just run a TIG arc slowly along the bottom of that seam, and probably fix the pinhole.

The hole isn't on the seam, it's on the face of the tank, near the top. I'm away from home at the moment but will try to get pictures from the dealer.
