Default Battery charger solution

Thought you guys might want to see my solution for charging my battery over winter. Double stick taped (holds like crazy if you heat it up) the charger to the side of the battery. There is a hole perfect for easy access to the plug.

Leaving the charger connected to the battery and inside the car panels gives me a knee-jerk reaction.
Is there any downside to having battery back feed the charger or is it isolated?

What I would recommend is getting a CTek and either using the cigarette lighter adapter or connecting the battery pigtails to the battery directly and there is a quick disconnect.

My CTEK charges through the OBD II port — no problems in 5 years of Buffalo winters

I've had more than one charger go poof while charging outside the car. What if this charger set up goes poof under the hood?

I wish Porsche would do what Ferrari is currently doing and install a magnetic Battery Tender plug that plugs in the back of the vehicle. No need to have cables going into the vehicle.

Agree on the integrated solution. Even if CTek offered that as an ad on where you could wire it from the trunk to the outside of the car, that would be pretty cool.

What’s wrong with just using the cigarette lighter plug in the passenger footwell?

The door shuts on the cord just fine without harming it.

i don't like the fact that you end up having to leave the frunk open.

i use the footwell connect like others. Works without issue on my cars the last 12 years I’ve been doing it.

+1 Been doing this for years without any issue. Owners overthink solutions sometimes! ...... K.I.S.S.

*edit* Winter storage in Canada translates to Nov - April. ~ 5 - 6 LONG months!

How long are you guys who store for winter actually storing the vehicle? Also where are you at. I'm just doing some research and want to understand the storing requirements for those who have to store during winter.

One of the issues is that I have a GT3... and I can get over 2.5 months of storage out of our Lithium Battery using the 40Ah version of the Battery. And it close to 4 months with our 60Ah version. Keeping in mind I don't have a Camera, or Radar Detectors or USB charger so I am running it stock.

My point is actually that I think there is a way to make it through most storages with a 40Ah or 60Ah Lithium.... but addtioinally note that our Battery will put itself to SLEEP before being completely discharge.... so even after it goes to sleep you still have another month to press the RE-START button or Wiresless keyfob and still start it.

Yes I know it a more expensive solution, but it might eliminate some hassle for those who don't have garages with access to electric to plug the charger into... plus you get the benefit of lightweight and WIRELESS built-in Jump STarting.

So anyway can you guy who store tell me what region it is you are in, how long you have to store it for, and what car? We are trying to get this info to work on some things.

This winter will be my first winter storing my GT3RS. I expect there could be a good 4 months without driving or starting it. In fact, I need to find out what the proper way is to winterize.
