Default How close do the exhaust tips have to be to melt the plastic housing?

Just got 100mm tips installed and I read some threads that some people said to be careful—if the tips are set too high and therefore “too close” to the surrounding plastic outlet housing, it can melt.

I am able to get squeeze my small finger in between the tips and the plastic, which constitutes about 10-12mm. Noticed yesterday after an aggressive drive that the plastic housing was hot to the touch. Not burn yourself hot but close to it. I could keep my finger on it but my body wanted to withdraw, if that makes more sense.

I imagine this normally gets hot but seeking some advice. Much appreciated. Sorry don’t have pics now because I’m at work...

I replaced my sharkwerks tips with the JCR titanium tips which don't protrude as much but are 102mm at the exit. After 2 track days, with sessions typically 20 mins, on hot days - the heat was enough to turn the tips blue, but the plastic is fine on my car. My gap is the same as you describe.

Are the JCR tips on the stock center muffler? Any pics?

They are on the JCR center bypass.

These are the only 2 pics I took after the first track day.

Same here JCR tips and JCR CMB - the cone shaped tips give more open cooling area. I did run the Sharkwerks tips you mention above on my car for a bit with no issue (but no track days)

Did a track day (100+ degrees) with Sharkwerks 100mm tips and zero issues,

Sharkwerks 100mm Tips and Center Bypass/Soul Side bypass.

My sw 100mm tips mounted on stock muffler (plus dundon street headers) are very very close to the bumper.... I was a little bit concerned but after 3 trackdays with very hot temps i had no problems.... So dont worry

Somehow I managed to melt the plastic with the first gen 88mm sharkwerks tips on my 991.1. Guess I was just running hotter... 😁

I moved them as low as it would go and it didn’t get worse. None of it was visible from outside. Had to get the bumper off to see the problem.

So far I can’t see any problems with the GMG cmb on this 991.2.

Got more pics of the Jcr cones? I thought they looked bad in their stock photos but this makes me reconsider since I might go back to side deletes.
