i know what you mean, does look like it might not be, but it's loosing tire pressure, dropped about 16.
not sure what a "plug" is, have always just replaced the tire when nailed–sheesh how's that for clueless? thanks! yours as well
A plug is exactly that. I've used them on many other cars and never had any issues. Other's have used them here on RL with good results. Some say just don't use them for track use.
Chance, i would get it plugged, I'm sure Rodger Jobs can do it for you.

A plug is not the best way to fix it.
It needs to be patched. Most tire places that can handle 11" wide wheel, will do it for no charge . It does include removing the tire off the wheel and put a patch inside the tire
What is the answer to the original question on how much thread difference you can use between the 2 rear tires ?
A new Cup 2 is 7/32. As long as the remaining tire is 5/32 he should be OK. If less than 4/32 that would be an issue. In that case, either replace both rear tires, or order one new tire from the Tire Rack shaved to match the remaining tire.
I've had one of those in my tire. Liike a machine screw, self tapping, but short thread. Did not go through the tread. You might be ok, depending upon length of the screw.
I have never gotten more than 3000 miles out of a set of Cup 2s. The tread may appear fine but the compound has heat cycled away most of the grip unless you only drove it on the street. I would replace instead of patch

I agree, and have pulled these out before with zero effect, but, the OP is already down to 16 psi. He not so lucky.
