+1

There are some .1RS here at the Ring that have a lot of miles on them. I'll check with them if they have had any issues.

We used to coat the rod bearings in race motors with the same stuff. It lengthens the part life but it will eventually fail. Just a band aid

Porsche warranties the gt3 because they were forced to

Enjoy the car while under warranty..then punt it

I wouldn't own any 991.1 gt3 variant out of warranty..even RS or R

Local race shop had a guy buy a bubble wrapped .1rs a few months back..it Thru a rod at 900 miles on track. Porsche is being a ***** about warranty engine since it was not broke in to spec
I respectably disagree, .1 RS failures are very rare.

It’s the best deal going in the Porsche universe. Enjoy the cars completely worry free for 10 years and then after the warranty ends if you have any concerns get one of the aftermarket finger follower fixes.

The .1 RS engines have held up very well. I do believe they got it right by then.

But - engine still flawed but who cares if no issues.

OP, sorry to hear of your engine troubles. Still no known failures of the Revision 2 G motor that I am aware of, as Rob said. So 4th times the charm hopefully.

Curious as to what oil you're running? Is it Mobil 1 ? Mobil 1 IMO is significantly exacerbating the FF issue. Motul 8100 XCESS or the like are far superior from a wear protection film/barrier perspective. Mobil 1 use to be a good group IV oil, until Exxon bought them out in the early 2000's and switched to a different base stock (not true synthetic). I have also heard of quality control issues with Mobil 1, and cheating on the ingredients. There is a reason Wal-Mart sells it for ~$3.99 a quart. Also, North American "European Blend" is significantly different (inferior) to the Mobil 1 sold in Europe, as it uses an entirely different formula (better base stock).

If you are using Mobil 1, I would switch to Motul 8100 XCESS 5W-40 or something equivalent. I use to burn ~1 quart every 1500 miles with Mobil 1, I now burn 0. Not a drop with Motul 8100 XCESS 5W-40.

I have been using Mobil 1 as recommended by Porsche. Thanks for the tip.

I truly believe Porsche is underestimating the poor quality of North American Mobil 1 vs their superior European Mobil 1. I also believe this is why the FF issue didn't surface sooner in the development cycle. Yes, there is a somewhat intrinsic issue in the hydraulic lifter design vs. solid lifter, from an excessive inertia standpoint. Albeit, Porsche is testing/developing their engines with superior oil.

In short, friends don't let friends buy Bose or Mobil 1.

So do we have any documented G6 motor failures yet?

My car was replaced in Sep. 2018 with G608xx and seems solid after about 4k miles. Just did the first oil change and it looked good, but now this thread has me worried, especially since I just used Mobil 1 lol

So far I've not heard of any G6 motor failures. My early G motor (manufacture date of end of 2015) did fail.

That engine should have all the fixes so you should be good. As the guys mentioned, maybe use a better approved oil. That is my plan if/when my original engine goes. Until then....M1.

Were G6 motors motors in the .1RS from the factory?

I have not heard of anyone on Rennlist that has had a .1RS engine failure...

My 991.1 RS is Nov 2016 built with G0739x , I believe is one of the very last .1 RS built (RHD) factory G engine

I’m not aware about G6 motor, or exist.

Rob, I believe why you're not seeing the FF issue with your motor is due to living at altitude. The volumetric efficiency is lower due to lower atmospheric pressure/o2, resulting in lower heat/friction/stresses inside the engine.

You are probably right. I need to take this car to sea level for a week!

G-0 and no issues so far. Since I purchased my car, I don't have 500 miles below track rpms.
