Anyone know if when the 73 RS Touring and the 73 RS lightweight, did both simply show 991 RS show on the car’s registration?

VIN was based on engine so no way to tell.

I see. I meant Carrera RS. So in the registrations both probably show as Carrera RS, and lightweight or touring we’re simply options back then as well.

At least the number of Touring built will be less than or close to the number of 991.2 Speedster planned. Does it mean the Speedsters shouldn't be fetching over MSRP in the coming months as the Touring isn't fetching much over MSRP any more?

Correct. Also your 2.7 MFI Carrera has the same VIN code as an RS. Today, in a lot of decoders, 911R comes up as a 991.1 RS. Again, because the engine is the same.

There is this fascinating (to me) thing about what’s a different model and what’s an option package. Manufacturers make whatever decisions for branding and sometimes regulations (as I suspect was the case with the touring package — they did not want to jump through hoops to call it a new model even if EPA did treat it differently), but in some other manufacturers, there would be the 911 (from base to GT2RS) and everything would be considered an option package. For example, the Dodge Challenger from base to hellcat redeye is still a challenger, probably demon too even it is is branded differently. Just like a GT2RS is still a 911 even if it is not branded as such (and, in fairness, 911 are not branded 911 in most instances, they are branded Carrera, Carrera 4 GTS cabriolet, GT3, turbo S etc.). Only if you spec the 911 to replace model designation are they really branded 911 and you can do that on everything but the GT cars.

At the end of the day, who cares, but it is still fascinating. And for all of you who are like “its just an option package” remember, so was the L88 or hemi or corvette tanker.

The Speedster with "The Hump",
sorry I just can't wrap my head around any of the proposed images I see; it looks so unbalanced

I'm not disagreeing with you just playing devils advocate . There are hundreds of examples in the collector car world where "options" make a huge difference. Take a 67 Corvette for example. Chevy made a lot of 67 Corvettes. A 327 hp is not as valuable as one optioned with the 427/435 hp. A 1970 Dodge Challenger is not so rare. But a plum crazy convertible with a white top and 440 Six Pack and only 5 were made is well over a million dollars today. They are all the same model but options can make a difference. So Porsche has and will make thousands of GT3s. But if they never make a Touring again who knows in 50 years if the Touring is very rare?

Why are you picking on me? I didn't start the thread nor defending the Thread. Don't feel bad if you bought a GT3 with a wing

Respectfully disagree I believe Tourings will be more apt to be used.

I know, the envy abounds! When Porsche completed the recalibration of GT3 parameters for the Touring, who knew it would be so great?! It is not the rarity but the whole package, especially the rear wheel steering on bumpy roads. Winged guys won't get it because thy're going in circles on smooth track, but when you take the back roads some surfaces are less then perfect and the Touring shines
