Extended Range Fuel Tank Counter Argument
#16
On the 991.1 GT3's it was a $0 option, just check the box. I'm sure they figure they might as well make some extra money.

The official weight of the car is calculated with 90% full fuel tank. Smaller tank “saves” quite a bit of weight in the spec sheet...

All my Aussie delivered GT cars had no option for the larger fuel tank when I spec’d them. Each of these holds approx. 60l of fuel. When I queried this I was also told the larger 90l tank is not an option in Aus due to the steering rack location. Which model 911 have you got the 90l tank in?

The Porsche does just fine with the small tank as well.....it's just much more convenient to have the larger.....my RS has the small tank and it's quite annoying.....

Absolutely necessary if tracking, otherwise will be spending a lot of time refueling. If you’re the typical Cars and Coffee RS driver then it’s not needed, the 16 gallon tank might not even need refilling by time you flip it to next buyer.

Wow all good info, does anyone know how much more the big tank weighs dry? The argument seems to be just fill it up less if you are concerned with weight but if the actual tank weight was considerably more that would be interesting

Alright, I'm gonna do this again.
Standard tank =16.9 gallons
Extended tank = 23.7
Difference in gal = 6.8 gal
Difference in weight with full gas = 6.8 gal X 6.3 lbs/gal = 42.4 lbs
40 minutes flat out at Watkins Glen, open track advanced high HP run group on lighter standard tank = 12 gallons consumed. Approximately 3.33 minutes per gallon, maybe more, maybe less depending on track, driving style, traffic, etc.
Any weekend warrior who drives more than 40 minutes continuously on track is asking for trouble. Unless you are like OrthoJoe or Trackar
I usually do a 30-35 minute run, fill car 10 gallons from two 5 gallon jugs I carry on my trailer, then run another 30-35 minutes. Then, time for lunch! Jugs fit nicely in the frunk. Go outside track, fill stomach with greasy food, fill car and jugs with gas, and good to go again!
To simplify, 4 runs of 30 minutes each or a total of 2 hours or 120 minutes, you would need about 36 gallons of gas. How big is that extended tank again?
So, extend tank mandatory for track? Sorry, IME, no. You can get it, but you'll still have to gas up during the day. Unless you drive real slow and economically, while hauling an extra 42 lbs to start

So so it’s simply a convenience thing... get gas once per track day, or twice per day. If you leave the track to get gas at normal prices here, that’s a 30+ minute round trip. Or pay double the normal prices at the track pumps.
