Autostacker Garage Lift - Initial Impressions
#91
I am not really sure which width I have as it shows in my invoice that that it's PL-6SR. I took notes and have it all in Itemtopia....Here are a few screen shots including the il to use and photos of scratches from delivery.
Thanks again @Porsches Any advice on the "S" vs "W" width? Which are you showing in your photos above?

Replying to question of:
1. wide or standard?
2. back in or forward?
Appears rest of questions are covered.
1. This is dependent on two things
- size of garage width
- car you have
My garage is a standard size and you can see with stuff to the right of it, the leftmost portion is almost on the centerline (settling joint) of my garage. If I had bought wide it would have encroached on the FJ40 side of the garage.
Have a 997.1 GT3 (so narrow body) and there is 8-10” on either side when I drive on maybe more….Enough that I can be off a little when backing in and there is no drama… Your results may vary. We had a related question back in Oct when a bud of mine (997.1 Turbo) and I were trailering our cars up to Tail of the Dragon in NC. U-Haul app said his was a No-Go and mine would fit as far as width. We went to U-haul yard for test fit before renting and both of our rides fit fine… This is a long way of saying you need to measure really carefully all vehicles involved against garage space and specs that AS provides. Lot’s of variables, but I got lucky/made it work without hiring installer, electrician or door guy….
I had to back my car in IOT have clearance between my windshield and my garage door in the up position. Electrically adjusted door travel then mechanically backed it up with C clamp on garage door track.
Lastly, I had read from others that lowered cars require removal of the bolted on yellow stops to ensure they are not hit by body of your car…in retrospect do’t think that’s an issue and may add mine back on. Also, I needed to be a bit forward behind my lift to account for a tire rack mounted high on wall. Achieved this by putting 4x4s in tire trough.

Bumping an old thread. How have owners of the Auto Stacker felt about the purchase long-term? Any regrets or issues?

Zero issues. Best solution, with maybe the exception of high-end single poster for those that don’t due their own maintenance and just want a drive on drive off capability. Have to further invest in diamondplate replacement access panels. They’re offered by Autostacker to gain access to underside of car. The other factor is there is no feature to jack car off of lift for wheel/suspension work. Def a feature central to two post lifts.

I don't see the appeal of autostacker when there are options like single post lifts on the market? Can someone help me understand why this bulkier solution which blocks your doors and can't be used for maintenance is a good solution?

Mine is only on 2nd mechanical lock. I’m 6’ 185 and still fairly mobile at 53yo. Perfect, no, usable, yes.

See above AND cost. Single posts are either cantilevered, or have a three leg design that goes under the car below. So consideration is installation cost. No cost for Autostacker, if your’re handy with tools. Single and two-post designs are significantly more involved with respect to installation, footers/floor thickness etc…etc. For my purposes, most of the 4post features without fixed poles in my garage. I hear you on door opening. Less of an issue the higher your garage ceiling is as the “x” members draw closer to each other. So if your a really big human or let yourself go…yes a consideration.
