Just heard back. He says he can't do it. The black paint and clear coats he uses are too different (according to him). So he gave me the name of two other shops to try. The search continues.

Every wheel is different. The satin black Porsche uses isn't the same as the flat black on a Mustang wheel, isn't the same as the matte black on a BMW wheel, and so on. You can't just put a Mercedes paint on a Porsche and call it a day... He said the blacks he has access to are too glossy to match. Oh well.

I'm just amazed you are having so much trouble finding a wheel repair guy to do the work. I can name 5 companies in my area that would had fixed this wheel the day you called them for $75-125 and it be flawless..

This. Had one done for a bit less than that and it's perfect.

I think it's your right to ask for a new wheel especially since you can get them mint condition used or new on suncoast etc, but I'd be perfectly fine with a quality refurb/paint wheel specialist any day.

Have you called Wheel Enhnacement in LA? If nothing else, their knowledge has always been helpful.

And all the shops are swearing up and down the stock wheels are powder coated, not painted. I called a few Porsche dealerships and none of them can confirm whether the stock wheels are painted or not. "I don't know" is the answer I get haha.

Sunset Porsche is definitely cheaper for a new wheel over Suncoast, which is cheaper than a dealership.

How much for a wheel?? $$

Nah, I live in SF. Not shipping a wheel. That would mean I have to bring my car to a dealership and let it sit on a lift for a week or however long it would take to go back and forth.

OUCH. Thanks. Keep us posted on the refinish.

To my knowledge, as you mentioned most will want to refinish whole wheel. The sheen on your wheel will be VERY hard to match. A powder coat will never be a 100% match to the OEM painted sheen.

That's why I'm opting for a touch up.

In case anybody missed it, the shop agreed to pay for a touch up. And if I'm not happy with it, they will buy me a new wheel (I will give them this wheel and they can re-sell if they wish).
Shop owner is on vacation until the 10th. So it'll be a couple of weeks before anything happens.

How did the touch-up go and would you recommend the person who did it?
