991.2 GT3 Strut tower failure??

IMHO no way. If you're aware of the issue and take two basic precautions you should be in very good shape. First- stick within Porsche's recommended ride height range when on the stock wheels. Second- avoid curb surfing at the track and over big potholes on the street. If you can do those two things you'll almost certainly never have an issue, and worst case it's an insurance claim.
That said it's a shame Porsche didn't address the problem with a design change (ie longer jounce travel) and/ or a ride height warning given that they have known about this issue for a few years. Between GT4s and 991 GT3s we've seen half a dozen cars on this site with the issue? On the order of half a percent of the represented perhaps?

Porsche has been pulling bump travel out of the cars for decades. They took out nearly 10 mm from the 997 to 991, and the tire sidewall's being getting shorter at the same time. It's left less margin than there once was.

A $150K - $200K car with a chassis that may not survive a pot hole sounds ridiculous .
Porsche AG, why is this even an issue in this day and age?? I hope you guys come up with a fix ASAP.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this is not a common occurrence and Also not something that we need to worry about as a routine event.
I meant to say, this is a terrible design defect and everyone who has a configurable RS allocation needs to back out of the deal right away and let me know what dealership they were ordering from.

Bob Moore Collision is a authorized Porsche repair facility and they did a great job with the repair!
I'am in LA and this happened in Oklahoma.

That's interesting that the tower shears off like that. And the part looks like it came out cleanly. It's almost like it's designed in so that the part is replaceable rather than destroying the whole front end. Maybe Porsche engineers are smarter than we are at designing cars....?
Part that’s designed to fail and costs $20k+ to replace + likely hood damage, etc = not so smart.

The 991.2 RS and gt2 are Rose jointed so even more energy is going right to the shock tower mounts since the ball joints are solid without any rubber to absorb energy. I said it before- Everybody should give up their gt2 and .2 RS allocations now if you don't want this failure to happen to you.

If your 991 somehow suffers this issue you're covered under warranty. There's a known fix to this problem. Heck, Manthey even manufactures a reinforcement kit for their GT4 and Cup cars racing in VLN so you can strengthen your top mounts as a preventative measure.
