Has nothing to do with the 3rd radiator, because even cars without run cooler oil temps in Sport Plus.

Sure it does. I run around in sport mode in my .2 at it lowers the operating oil temp to 194 just like the 991.1 and 981s.

That is not true. Go try it when you get your 991.1 out of storage. Sport mode also lowers the car's operating oil temp. Just like in the 991.2.

Of course, I think the 3 of us are referencing the Carrera engine. The OP's original question on the GT3 was already answered.

I am talking about the .2 GT3. I had it out yesterday and did not see any drop in temp in sport mode

Does anyone have the Technik Introduction document for the 991.2 GT3 yet? For the GT4, it describes the map controlled thermostat with diagram. The 991.1 GT3 document does not indicate a map controlled thermostat. Most likely the .2 GT3 is the same.

Sport button definitely affects water temp when warming up in GT4, but don’t think it does in GT3...

Does not in GT3 and never did from y understanding.

For the GT4- the 3rd radiator was added to aid cooling hence, why the front end was changed on the Cayman for the GT4. It is either activated by pressing the Sport button or driving it hard which would activate it.

GT4 center radiator is always "active", the thermostat map varies between sport and normal modes or driving style.

Same goes for the other Cayman's. The center radiator just sits in a series circuit between the two front radiators. There's no valve to control flow.

On standard Carrera's the sport button affects oil temperature for fuel economy reasons. This is well documented in the owners manual for all Carreras. With a warmer oil say 102-105 °C the friction in the engine is lower. Primarily useful for the sailing mode in PDK equipped cars. When you push the sport button, engine oil temperature is brought down to circa 95°C which seals the motor better. A better sealed engine outputs more power and is a desired configuration for racing. For those of you who have recent Carrera's you will note that the sailing fonction is disabled when you are in Sport mode.

The .2 GT3 could not care less about fuel economy and the sport button does not have any effect on oil temp. In fact .2 GT3 engines run at a lower temperature than the standard 991's at approx. at 90-92°C under normal usage.

are .1s gt3 known for having thermostat issue? Also, I heard of .2 having cooling problems due to faulty coolant lines

GT4 is not a real GT car. The GT3 is the real deal.
