Question Audi R8 RWS instead of 991.2 GT3?

Hello rennlist members. I will try to make this short. I had put a deposit on a 991.2 gt3 back in the summer of 2016. I was offered a build around May 2017 but the timming for various reasons was not right so I passed. Spoke recently to the general manager of the dealer where I had put a deposit and right now ordering a gt3 is completely impossible. There is one used 991.2 gt3 on the floor of the dealer at around 60 k $ over sticker with 3000 miles..

So a new 991.2 GT3 if off the table. Here are my other options

1- Wait for the 992 gt3 (that is a long wait)

2- Wait for a the upcoming cayman gt4 with supposedly the 4.0 na engine (in about 1 year I guess) probably around 115k canadian$

3- Buy a new audi R8 RWS (REAR WHEEL DRIVE ONLY). My local dealer has one available for delivery in about one and a half months at msrp.
Only 999 in the world. 540 hp V10. Same msrp as a GT3. 163k canadian$

So what do you think?

I don’t plan on tracking my car. It would be used as a daily driver from mid April to mid November

If some european rennlist members have driven the R8 RWS I would be grateful to have their opinion.

Thanks.

Option 2 (if you can get it at msrp) and then option 1.

To me personally, this is a no-brainer. Get the Porsche because regardless of how good the Audi is, once you own it, you would always hope that you have gotten the Porsche.

I feel like an R8 is much closer to a Turbo than a GT3 or a GT4. Much more of a plush and comfortable ride. If you're considering the R8, why not look at a Turbo / Turbo S?

If you're really looking for the raw race car like experience then a GT car is probably the only option. I would really look at 991.1 GT3's and maybe even 997.2 GT3 (RS) as well. GT4 would be my backup.

Audi R8 RWS instead of 991.2 GT3?

That's like opting for a Salisbury steak instead of A5 Wagyu.

I wouldn't do it as it seems like you are just trying to fill the void of the .2 GT3 with anything feasible (could be mistaken), and I've learned this can be an expensive proposition that gets you into something you might regret for instant gratification when you should go after what you are really wanting

I was thinking the same thing when I was striking out on .2 GT3 allocations (Turbo S, CPO 991.1 GT3, hell even Ferrari 458) but I have learned from buying and flipping other expensive things that you should just go after what you really want, otherwise you'll cost yourself more money in the short-term and pony up for what you wanted all along down the road...

Go for a .2 GT3 at an ADM, or even a .1 GT3 over the R8 IMO. Would consider TurboS too if it suits what you're looking for. Porsche > Audi IMO, at least currently. Cannot beat the passion/heritage/utility/experience of a Porsche 911.

I would just buy a used 991.1 RS. You obviously do not mind the Automatic transmissions so that would be my route

This. I am an owner of an RS though, so my answer might be a bit biased
However, I am heavily thinking of an R8 for myself, but not to replace the RS and not for the track. The only thing that is stopping me is the heavy depreciation, so if I do get one, it'll probably be a slightly used one.

Yes I think that going for the R8 would be like some sort of rebound relationship. I’m totally in agreement with you that immediate gratification usually cost more down the road. But that R8 does look and sound good.

I would do that. and knowing it is an "RS" at least it will retain some of the resale value and probably give you more smiles per mile than the Audi
