Spending $200k for the slowest version of a car doesn't make sense to a lot of people.
If that were true you'd have bought a turbo. But you didn't, because that logic doesn't necessarily make sense to you.. you bought a gt3 with factors in mind other than speed.

He couldn't get a GT2 RS allocation - shows that turbos sell!
Back on topic, as an Australian I drove my first automatic car 7 years ago when I moved to the US. I had always used taxis when travelling before that so never rented here.
Manuals are cheaper and pretty much every car was offered in manual vs the US when most are auto only.

Guzzler tax is based on fuel efficiency. Fuel efficiency less than 22.5mpg is subject to the tax, except exempts like a hearse which is considered a non-passenger car.
However the actual number is based on this formula. I kid you not....
.
Any vehicle whose fuel efficiency has not yet been determined is based on a "prior statistical average". Somehow that's supposed to take into account vehicle fuel efficiency of similar or previous models, weight, vehicle cost, maintenance, and primary vehicle use. The amount is set by the government, not the car manufacturer. If any of this gobbledy-gook has real meaning...I have no idea.
In the U.S., Trump is supposedly trying to eliminate the tax completely.

Yesterday, didn't he say he was considering raising the federal gas tax by 25 Cents per gallon? I mean, he can't do it on his own whim, but that doesn't sound like someone who wants to eliminate the gas guzzler tax...
Firstly, the majority of cars sold in Europe are manual so manuals are not a romantic novelty for most drivers over here as they are in the US.
Secondly, I get the feeling that the % of Europeans that track there GT3s is much higher than the US...and for this purpose....most do not want a manual...they want a PDK.....given that most drive manuals on a daily basis in their work cars.
I agree. In Europe, the regular GT3 is PDK+CS package to have fun on a track. I know, a manual gearbox is fun also, but the PDK is better from a performance point of view.

In fairness, when i reread my post you could take it either way.
I also think the #savethemanuals movement in the US has something to do with it. People are aware of manuals and seek them out. I can tell you I would not have bought a GT3 in PDK. I even went so far as to buy a new manual pick up truck.
