I agree, the car is so good, but the centerlocks are so terrible. And the closed calipers tick me off. I will be replacing the oem calipers as soon as Apex (or Essex) has the open caliper ready to go. Pad changes will be so much quicker/easier.

Must be a damn good car to put up with those two huge flaws....

Yeah, thats insane....! They should have timed me when I was changing them out. Thought I was going to have to call an uber to get to my truck in storage so would have something to drive......

ToolTopia website......brake pedal depressor. Start engine, depress brake pedal to floor, insert depressor, turn off engine, exit car, work on center locks. OH, and complete "kit" leaves little room for luggage in frunk.
The brake pedal depressor works great from keeping the wheel from spinning. But, you also have to be careful with the front wheels turning side to side (turning the steering wheel).

Smart man. I only did it so that I can be somewhat prepared to do a wheel swap or a pad swap at the track during a multi day event......Now I am thinking i might as well just load the car up and head home - I'd miss a entire session trying to swap wheels.....

Centerlocks SUUUCK! LOL
I feel like a fool. I found the small tool in the bottom of the same container. Looks like that would have saved me lots of sweat and tears getting the locking nut to pop out flush.....I thought that I was getting it torqued properly and thats why I wasnt getting the nut to pop out flush. Forehead slap!

Will be much easier next time

Many thanks! Found it now - but I missed it twice before - I didnt notice it in the owners manual and did not see it with the center lock tool. Feel like quite the idiot.

Im glad it worked out, but you have me dreading doing it now for my first time. My last 2 GT3s had the regular 5 lugs on the 996 Manthey GT3 and the 997.1

I have it down to about 15 min, 12 min if I really want grease everywhere and look like the silver surfer.
Concur - I easily went through 6 sets of rubber gloves. And still managed to get the paste all over the place

Cheap and easier than reversing and shaving the threads I think

There is a youtube video But, he leaves out some pretty key points. I feel better now knowing that the locking nut will pop out with some twisting from the small tool (or anything else that will fit in there) as opposed to thinking I had to torque, back off and re-torque over and over to make the magic happen

I live in Arkansas....the nearest tracks to me are 4 to 5 hours away (Barber, Hallett and COTA is even farther). I wanted to make sure I was comfortable, if not proficient, swapping them out in case I need to do so hours away from my local ship during a multi day track event. I dont want to end a two day event just because I can't change wheels and tires......

but if the pads wear out in the middle of an event, I'm packing up!

It probably isnt as bad as I made it seem - especially knowing what I know now from this thread. But, definitely a bigger pain than 5 lugs.

Mooty: Why doesn't Porsche use "real" centerlocks on all GT cars? People would pay up to be done with the shoddy design.
