Can someone explain to me the PTS preference? I understand a color preference (I have 4 silver 911s after all) but I don't understand how you might prefer a color that is basically 'other' - could be purple, pink, green, diarrhea brown, who knows... Is this just a value speculator thing or are some people genuinely more interested in being 'different' than having their own preferences? This is a genuine question because I'm willing to play a lot of the Porsche games (allocations, special variants, etc...) but I just don't understand PTS as someone who always orders GT silver when I can.

It's fun to own something rare. Other Porsche nerds get excited to see a PTS color.
That said, I think the basic thing is people who buy PTS just really like the color.
I would love to have a 991.2 touring in Brewster Green. That would be tops for me. Even then, I still love the look of my boring black car at the end of the day.

I think, PTS is just not for you, and not for me either. This is probably for different reasons, I do have strong color preferences: most overall for blue. All my cars were either blue, silver or white, with one black though. I only bought two cars new in my life, a Golf for my wife, and the GT3T and both were blue. The silver cars I have are blueish, i.e. polar-silver.
I don't see the point paying extra, when the regularly available colors are nice. Some people have other preferences, they might spend extra-money for a different color, where I would not, and the seller will like that, since they are able to charge extra-money, so in this case it's a win-win situation.

My personal preference is Black. I think its a timeless classic look that fits the car perfectly. Its not for everyone as I always hear people saying they wouldnt own a Black car because it takes too much effort to maintain it. Ive never seen that as an issue, I actually enjoy cleaning my car, its my therapy! Your car looks amazing with the BBS wheels!

Yeah, I totally get people who have a specific color preference and if that color doesn’t come standard they are looking for a PTS car in that specific color (eg Brewster green example above). What I don’t get is when people must have a PTS color but then don’t specify what PTS color - even if they probably wouldn’t be interested in any PTS color equally, it just seems odd to start with the PTS preference vs. a color preference (like your blue or my silver) and then maybe there is a specific shade you really want and it’s only available as PTS. It comes across a bit like they’re buying the car for the resale value vs. their genuine preference. Which I guess is fine if you get in and out of cars quickly - I tend to hoard…
Not trying to dig at anyone, I promise, everyone is entitled to buy whatever they want.
BTW - one of my cars is polar silver too and it is probably one of my favorite shades but I don’t prefer it enough over GT silver that I’d order it PTS.

When I was looking for my first 2019 GT3 Touring my dealer had a PTS Fashion Gray and a Chalk in stock. Truly, the chalk maybe had a slight tan undertone but you could not differentiate the two colors on the two cars even when they parked them next to one another. The only tell was the black antennae cover on the Fashion Gray. The eventual owner specifically choose to keep the cap black even though PCNA was offering a color matched cap for any PTS owner who requested it... free of charge! Why? Because the black cap was a sign that the car was a PTS. But why would someone order a color that someone would not think was PTS?!?! I am also a GT silver fan, as all of my GT3's have been GT Silver, so I really could not understand why someone would choose a color that was PTS but so similar to a color that Porsche offered as standard or for a slight upcharge. But like you said, I believe that the speculators have been controlling the market for some time. I don't care what anyone says, the Sepia Brown 991.2 GT3 Touring that Ryan Friedman had was not a nice color. As they say, money can't buy taste!

PS My only non GT Silver Porsche has been my 1990 964 which has Metallic Silver paint...

PTS has become the buzz word at C and C events. Some just want to be different, some really like the color they chose. Some do it for resale value. I prefer my Agate Gray Metallic to almost any other color I've seen. To each their own.
I love it when people spec a car all out just tailored for them, then turn around and sell it with delivery miles. Like BRO, we don't all have your same taste.
It's all fun though, 1st world problems.

Regarding PTS (light ivory), for me, I just was not enthusiastic about any of the colors available in the configurator except for agate grey - but my GTS is in agate grey. Having two 991s in agate seemed...boring. Resale was never a factor, in my case, because I knew that I would not be selling the car.

I often think about that with my PTS Pantone blue. Its a bit of a cross between Albert & Meerblau. I wondered why didnt the original owner just spec one of those colors? Pantone (aka Manaus) just feels like a random choice.
Then I realized thats probably why they went for it. So it could be a 1 of 1 while still looking close to some of the classic Porsche blues.

Pantone blue is actually a great color - I prefer it to Albert and Meerblau. That and Oslo are my favorite blues for the Touring.
