Default So I did the GT3 vs Turbo Driving Experience today...

Porsche was kind enough to comp my GT3 vs Turbo driving experience, so we took the Turbo out first. Incredibly powerful car, but i was itching to get in the GT3. I give it the full beans to see how much power I am missing at altitude, but honestly I could barely tell the difference. We do a couple of launch controls, and I felt pretty good about my GT3's performance in Colorado. I also thought that maybe the humidity took something out of it.

Anyways, we pull into the slalom / cone section, and we are idling while the instructor is explaining the plan. And then the engine starts to idle really rough. The instructor asks me to turn off the car, remove the key, and then start it again. And then...wait for it...

Check Engine Light. Reduced Engine Performance. Possible to drive on.

And then the instructor gets on his radio and says..."control, we just got a check engine light. Can you bring out another GT3?"

Perfect ending to a perfect trip. What are the odds? Of course, we will never know if this was the same issue, or something else. But the stars were definitely in alignment.

Btw, the next GT3 they brought us (another 3.8 .1) was way more powerful. A beast!

CEL came on the .1 or the .2?

How does the .2 look in the flesh? Take any pictures of it?

Great question. I can't believe people are jumping all over this.

It was a .1 as it had the 3.8 side plates. I asked about the .2's, but the instructor said they aren't expecting the .2's until later in the year.

Yeah, after seeing your comment I saw how this could be misinterpreted. Edited to address that.

So, in other words, in the second .1 GT3 you noticed (as expected) the elevation related performance difference.

It was funny. Not sure if this was exactly that issue, or maybe something else. I was pretty shocked when it happened. Seriously?

LOL

As far as telling PCNA about it, that would have really been inappropriate. That wasn't our style.

Yeah Bryan, it had more grunt. It also had much harder and deeper shifts. That was very noticeable.

There are calculators out there that will estimate the HP reduction at altitude in a NA car. When I took my C2S to Mammoth, based on feel I estimated it was down 100 HP. When I got back I used an estimator and it said 90. Could feel every one of those lost HP.

Rob: Look on the bright side. A demonstrative shining example of the issue for the Concerned Owners Group occuring right in their backyard with their car in front of the COG. Doesn't get better than that.
