If only McLaren would do an NA engine. If they could dump the turbos on the 570s and give us a 500hp high revving NA 3.8l v8 engine to sit under the 540 then the GT3 would have some real competition. Under 3k lbs, over 500hp, under $200k, hydraulic steering, cf tub, amazing suspension, so much win I could look past potential reliability issues and maintenance costs.

I think Mclaren's auto tranny programming sucks which combined with a laggy bottom end in the 570 might turn folks off but if you stay in manual mode and keep the revs up, the 570 feels great, crazy fast and responsive, but you need a lot of road to enjoy it.

Anyone that owns the 600lt have similar complain about lag + dct programming that leaves it lethargic unless on it hard?

The automatic mode really only exists to drive like a normal car, the LT really is designed to be driven in manual mode or track mode with auto in anger. I don't really find I even think about the lag as just like a gt3 or gt3rs it doesn't have that much go juice under 3500, the difference is while the GT3 winds up crescendo style, the 600LT has exploded away post full boost...so really its that much more fun to me vs any kind of hinderance. When you're ON IT on it, there is maybe a hair bit of lag, but again its more of a relative thing to how much power is provided after. Don't forget the LT revs to 8500 rpm, so it's got the characteristics of a higher revving car only with turbos to add on power vs a 6700 rpm turbo s or something where you get that torque well built in earlier.

Just test drove a 600LT and walked away impressed by the handling and acceleration. Feels very precise, nimble and planted. On the braking side, I feel like it's too soft... almost like I needed to press on the brakes hard to get it to grab. Is this how Macs are?

my 720 brake feel is similar. You have to push hard. I think that’s how they are.

Instead of a new 570GT, I would instead get a used 650 for about the same price.

This is something I also consider...
Read at multiple places that the 650 feels more like an Appliance vs the 570 line,.. Dont know if its true.

My concern about the 650S or any super series car is the hydraulic suspension; it's $30k if things go [moderately?] wrong according to people who have early cars, so the extended warranty is more or less required (which may be true in either case).

You can likely find a new '18 570GT for 20+k under (and maybe similar for '19 models) now since dealers want to clear stock for upcoming '20 models. I heard that McLaren has discontinued the GT model after MY19.

When I got my 488, I was debating between the 650 and 488 (amongst other cars). Hated the drive of the 650 in my limited time in it. Lots of lag, very quiet. 488 was the polar opposite.

But between 650 and 570, im not sure. I just don’t have enough experience behind the wheels of both to comment properly.

Yep, and the 570/600/720 have lighter pedals that their predecessors...the stiff pedal is fantastic when pushing it, at least to me as I prefer that to the over boosted pedals in most of the Porsches (makes me feel like there are no brakes left sometimes when they get hot haha). But that is most definitely a personal preference (and always interesting when I go from my 19 Turbo S with the softest pedal feel to the 600lt which you definitely need intent for haha.

I came from a 650s (for the other questions) and loved it, but it was more of a mclaren/porsche gt2 light kind of feel if that makes sense. Ya there was lag, but again on the other side it was a frigging ROCKETSHIP. It's the car that made me park my Gt3rs (991) and not really drive it again till I sold it, I had that much fun in it. Granted those weren't for everyone and they do have a few scary maintenance potentials with the suspension but even still, mine was super reliable and it had 18000 miles at the end.

Yeah, that's a tough one. Back to back both are stupid fast for the street but I liked the stronger top end of the 650, felt more fitting for the super car character. On the other hand, and this might seem counterintuitive, I preferred the suspension in the 570. The magic carpet ride of the super series cars is very cool, I just liked that the more traditional suspension of the sport series felt stiffer and less refined so that even just tooling around in traffic you weren't going to forget you were driving something special.

The sport series handling is definitely more lively than the super, even 600lt vs 675lt.

discovered another reason why McLarens are horrible:
low car + short arms = my SO having to get out of the car to trigger badge sensor to open gate at company parking lot! all while long line of cars waits behind her....

expecting video on Jalopnik or Insta shortly
