Would think the manufacturer would ultimately be responsible for cost of vehicle in a case like this

It would be on the insurance, unless it is an obvious manufacture defect, or Mclaren admits fault. Otherwise, the insurance may investigate to blame the manufacturer, which would likely be costly and hard to do.
Edit: the insurance will likely investigate a potential scam more rigorously before trying to blame the manufacturer though.

Scam is the first thought that comes to mind but need to wait for the details. I dont imagine McLaren is going to be in a hurry to accept that their ultra flagship car spontaneously combusted.

On a loss this large (around $1 million), I can promise you a carrier and mcclaren will both spend the initial money for an investigation. I'd bet you a coca-cola that the carrier has already dispatched an arson investigator.
This will all get flipped on its head if this was caused intentionally by the owner.....the carrier and mclaren will both move quickly to prove this if thats the case - one to avoid liability for a $1 million claim and the other to avoid reputational damage

What makes anyone think is a scam? Cars burn, all it takes is a decent sized fuel or oil leak on a hot exhaust and up it goes. The number of NAS Defenders that have burned, for example, is staggering. I get we have not seen another Senna burn, but they are new. And don’t forget the 3RS that burned recently. Absent some compelling evidence, it would be very difficult to prove it was arson in any event. I mean it’s not like a house where the presence of an accelerant may be unusual, there is a whole tank of accelerant traveling with the car at all times.

doubt it is a scam
the guy apparently paid 500 k above sticker for the car , which probably he will lose irrespective who pays for the replacement
not a fan of the guy , and most of these you tubers, but saying it is most likely a scam , without any evidence is not fair
