Default Bent stock GT3 rims

I am having new tires put on at the dealer and they said that two rims were bent. They are fixable and are being repaired.

My question is whether this is a common problem?

I don't live in a pothole prone area and don't recall hitting anything. However, I do track the car, but I try to avoid the serious curbing. If I had to guess, however, I would say the damage is track related.

This has been reported by OrthoJoe in his track thread. I have not heard of it, until this week

Yeah, it's happened to me multiple times. The wheel guy says he's seen it many times on other cars. A friend of mine confirmed the same thing with his gt3 too

I think I recall the incident now. Thunderhill Turn 15. Got two wheels off and came back on the track.

Turns out the local wheel shop cannot straighten CL rims. Any suggestions for a shop that can do it in the Bay Area or (preferably) Sacramento?

So I guess this now can't be claimed under warranty due to track usage?

Are they confirmed "Forged" wheels?

I believe the stock wheels are forged. But if not, I'm sure I'll be corrected shortly.

I thought the stock GT3 rims couldn't be fixed if bent. I developed a mild bend in both rims on one side of my GT3 after spinning off the track. Two Porsche dealers said the GT3 wheels could not be fixed only replaced.

I'd be interested in a repair if that's actually possible, but I'm skeptical that GT3 wheels can ever be repaired.

They are supposed to be forged wheels. I see no reason why they can't be fixed. Rite way wheel in walnut creek fixes mine and is the 'go to' place in the Bay Area

There was a thread on this a while back, but I think the conclusion was that the wheels are not true monoblock forged wheels, but rather flow formed.

Of course, if I'm incorrect, I'm sure I'll be corrected in no time.

I hope not! Flow forming is a casting method.

AP said they were the first forged wheels ever used on a GT car from Porsche when the car was first released.

Hmm. Anyone know a shop that can fix GT3 wheels in the LA/ San Diego area?

Is there any technician there I should speak with? The guy I spoke with on the phone was a little hesitant when I mentioned center locks.

Do you know if they have CL specific equipment to mount the rim on while working on it?

Jose is the owner and Kelvin is his right hand man. They will only take the wheels if you bring it in to them. They are smart and won't take off and put back on the car itself. They have the equipment to mount a CL wheel. They do it all of the time.
