Reference Guide to PTS
#2118
Is it just me, or does it seem like there are going to be more PTS RSs than there were PTS GT3s? It's like there's a new one popping up all the time, and most of them still haven't even arrived. I would take it as a good sign that the few PTS allocations are increasingly being given to GT cars and that GT car owners are getting more interested in PTS. Is there any reason to think the factory is upping their PTS numbers overall?

'Interest' in PTS is up...
Only few were delivered before the 'Stop Sale'. And those scheduled for
late MY2014 production were the only ones allowed to be transferred as
PTS into MY2015 production in the US. We (USA) then got the 30 late
allocation PTS MY2015 gt3's in only three colors...but it ended there.
There were no PTS allowed for MY2016 gt3 for any Porsche market
that I am aware of!
gt3 RS customers were able to get the right to order PTS.
It was not the most logical, or fair system, that was used.
And it would not surprise me if PAG decided that if demand
for PTS exceeded supply in 991 production at Zuffenhausen,
they would allocated more of that rare option to the customers
spending (in broad terms) the most for their vehicles! As you
know, the PTS window closed for the '16 991 gt3 RS model in
early July of 2015. What we are seeing now is just PAG getting
to building them at these 'late' dates.
the answer is 'yes'), I would hope so! But PAG is not releasing
exact figures to the public yet on yearly PTS production, so we
really can't quantify that 'increase' yet. One of the reasons I am
hoping they will allow me to interview the executives at PAG that
control PTS and make the decisions as to 'who' gets the limited
allocation. I want to report 'their' version of the PTS story at
Porsche & how the PTS allocation process 'really' works. It's
a good story...and it will be good for us to know.
No question that interest in PTS is way up. There is one thread
on a rather obscure 'primer' color that has over 46K views!
*
And recent threads on 'Signal Green' or 'Maritime Blue', to name
but a few, are getting all kinds of hits!
*
And then there is this dude in Carmel that posts more on PTS than...well,
anyone! And the readers apparently like it because they are themselves
contributing to it & keeping it going all the time!
These four threads alone, in just Rennlist, have now over 879,000 views!
So 'Yes', I would say 'interest' in PTS is way up among the Porsche
enthusiast community the world over. Our readers are not only from
the US & Canada, but Europe, Middle East, Asia & Latin America. And
more importantly for Porsche, this 'interest' is translating itself into
actual custom orders of PTS of Porsche vehicles, especially on the
991 & 981 models!
Is anybody paying attention at PAG?

Eduardo

We were not 'bamboozled' by PAG on this color...
I interrupt our regular programing to report this flash
news that I just received via Private Message from a
well connected Rennlister:
hi Eduardo
just an FYI that mambagruenmetallic (Y76) is now approved
this is it:

This come as no surprise to some of us. You may remember the
conversation we had here with some of our knowledgeable contributors
which are listed in this post I wrote back on Jan 5th 2016 (see below):

Something is going on with this color...and it's not the same
'Magic Bamboo Metallic' that we saw earlier on that Cayenne
or my photos taken at Porsche Leipzig last July.
But it looks like a new color (regardless what they call it) under
consideration for at least the 911 Turbo & perhaps other models!
This is a .2 991 Turbo. Note that the license plate: 'BB*CR 125',
which stands for Böblingen, Baden-Württemberg. Such plate is
often associated with a Weissach test car. So my bet is that this
is a Porsche factory vehicle, not a customer PTS car!
***
Here was a similar Weissach factory gt4 in which 'Miami Blue'
was tested. I personally saw this car at Zuffenhausen during
my visit last July!
***
And here is a different Turbo (with regular 'red' calipers, not PCCBs)
at Weissach as reported by someone recently here in Rennlist. It's
a .1 991 Turbo, so they were experimenting with this green metallic
color for at least one year. Coincidence that these metallic green
turbos are showing up at Weissach or with Weissach area plates,
I don't think so!

And here was my response to the fellow that posted the photo,
although it was never subsequently determined as to the color:

So keep you eyes on this new metallic green color. It might be
the re-formulated 'Magic Bamboo Metallic' that Daniel is talking
about and that we brought up at my luncheon with 'Porsche
Exclusive' staff back in July at Zuffenhausen. Here is what I
wrote about it back in July after Daniel told me the info he had
found out just before my meeting with 'Porsche Exclusive'!

I thank Daniel (Lessthan3mph) for starting this whole discovery process.
And to the others that contributed photos & possible explanations. In the
end, we got to the bottom of this 'mystery' green metallic color..much to
the chagrin of PAG before it was officially announced. Good job, guys!
I encourage other readers of Rennlist in Germany to join us on this
'discovery voyage' into the obscure world of 'new color offerings' at
Porsche. They need to test these colors first on 'mules'...so you might
see them around Zuffenhausen, Weissach & Leipzig before the rest of
us even know that color is under consideration. So keep your eyes open...
and a camera handy!

Ya, I agree, it doesn't look exactly the same, but it would be
hard to imagine they'd do PTS already, since the window for
all PTS should be closed. So I'm guessing a new green that
hasn't been seen before, and magic bamboo might fit the bill.
It's not on the configurator yet, but who knows...

Did you get to talk to the owner and find out
the exact PTS color?
It looks too light & rich to be the popular 'Oak Green Metallic'...
And there are many other possibilities of 'green metallic' PTS paints
which we are not that familiar with in their current 991/981 form:
And it could also be a few approved green metallics that are not
listed above! These types of 'metallic' greens were a particular
favorite color of Ferry Porsche!
If you could find out for us, we all would appreciate it!

Thanks for your thoughts on PTS in GT cars. My gut feeling impression was not far off, it seems. I think that it is encouraging that so many people are looking at PTS. It means to me that there is a greater awareness and interest in the history of the brand (or at least in some of the historic colours). Hopefully this helps nudge the factory to create more options for future GT cars in terms of vibrant and interesting colours. The response to the newly formulated colours (Miami, UV, LO, etc) seems very positive.
As for the new green, that's great to finally have some answer to the mystery! Recall there was also a Cayenne in a new green listed by the same name. So clearly there have been a few iterations of the colour and/or different potential model lines destined for its introduction.
Maybe we'll learn more soon about Chalk, Light Oxford grey, and other new colours (see post #2014 in this thread).
Just another note. Not only does the Turbo S with PCCB have different brakes, it also is the 991.2 body style as evident in the rear lights, deck lid, wrap-around reflectors on rear bumper, etc (vs 991.1 with red calipers). And now the photo of the .2 Turbo S cab. Guess this is where we'll be seeing the new green make an appearance.
Thanks for the interesting update!

Great info/read Eduardo and Daniel. Only part I hate (actually love) is I find myself wanting to read every post every day. Boy has my days change since joining RL. Thanks again PTS dual.

Thanks bronson for mentioning me. The way I see it, Eduardo should get the lion's share of credit for uncovering and putting the info together. My wife thinks I'm crazy for reading stuff on here all the time too!

That is right, dertub. In real life, 'Nardo Gray' (which is one of the
few colors closely associated with Audi & available mostly PTS via
'Audi Exclusive') is indeed darker than Porsche's 'Fashion Grey'.
Our Rennlister user friend 'trips' sent me these photos of his friend's
'Nardo Gray' RS7 next to a 'Fashion Grey' gt3!
Two cars side by side, one camera lens, same lighting condition.
This gives you a better idea for comparison between these two
very elegant & sophisticated colors!
*
'Nardo Gray' has not yet appeared on the Porsche PTS list,
even for a feasibility study. So it's not currently available
at Porsche via PTS, nor even under consideration at the
present time. 'Nardo' refers to the test track (Pista di prova
di Nardò) in Italy recently purchased by...Porsche. And
over the years, before PAG bought it in 2012, it had been
the site of many vehicle world records & famous endurance
tests for Fiat, Ferrari, Porsche & other car manufacturers.
So the name has a historic association to Porsche...as well
as a present one too!

Interestingly, 'Nardo Gray' is a no cost option on the RS7.
I don't think 'Nardo Gray' today is a standard on anything
else on the Audi model range...but I could be wrong. It
can be ordered, however, as PTS via 'Audi Exclusive' for
US $ 3,900 on any model. Even though the Audi cost of
PTS is now almost 1/2 of Porsche's new PTS pricing, I
just couldn't resist the 'bargain' of selecting a beautiful
(uni/solid) & rare color with a history at Audi for....free!
I took delivery of my custom ordered 'Nardo Gray' RS7
two weeks ago Monday!

Congratulations once again, gt3RS! 'Signal Yellow', a historic/
vintage early 911 color, is one of my favorites. I once owned
an original paint 1973 911T Sunroof coupe in this stunning
color:

LOL
Whats funny is there a ton of images of the Queen Ace on Marinetraffic.com and in a bunch the side of the ship has rust visible. My buddies have been teasing me about that since the car was officially on that vessel. I cant wait for it to officially check in at the canal, at that point an ETA into San Diego will be posted, then i can really start to lick my chops. LOL
