Also, the RS (and to some extent the base GT3) is a halo car.
They're there to create an image for the underlying marque, not necessarily to meet the basic rationality of most supply-and-demand economics that drive just about every other corporate decision at a company.

Spoke to my dealer (Pfaff) yesterday. After a lengthy conversation I was emphatically advised that Porsche will continue production of the GT3 RS as long as there is demand. No set time frame to end production nor will it be a specific limited number. He offered me an allocation with a small deposit now and a further deposit later on closer to production. Estimates are delivery would be 8-12 months. Shortly after production is terminated a limited addition RS (500 units) will become available selling in the $250K range.

What would they buy? Are there really any viable alternatives at around the same price range, 180-200k USD?

I am sure there are many others. For most people, it's a trophy. If they don't buy this one, they'll just buy something else from another manufacturer.

I spent some time talking with my GM yesterday. I gave up my RS allocation as I love my GT3, and while the RS will be a track beast, I've switched to mostly DD the car and am happy.
however the conversation was interesting as he had the 918 guaranteed program rules on his desk and we got to talking about them. They apparently are a mess and PAG didn't realize what they were getting into with them. On the GT4, he has 15 people who have put orders down, he's getting 5 cars, 4 of which are going to 918 owners, leaving 1 of 15 orders. Same thing on the GT3RS, right now there aren't over allocations (ie a 918 list and a regular list) there is just a build allotment, which means if the 918 guys take the cars, everyone else is SOL. He's working to convince the 918 buyers who don't want the cars to take the allocation, buy the car, then sell back to him at 10k over MSRP.
right now it's a mess (much like the Ferrari system, which over time has gotten worse and worse, and actually was a main reason I don't buy them anymore) hopefully PAG and PCNA can turn it around to free these cars up.
Oh, and on another point, he had a 918 he bought for the dealership. they then sold it to a customer, and the allocations moved to the customer, not sure if that will happen with owner to owner sales however...

Assuming most of the people in this category have money to stretch (which I think is safe to assume)
- 488 blown engine
- R8 V10 AWD
- AMG GT S blown engine
- Huracan maybe, but most reviews say it's not the drivers' car the GT3 is
- Z06 blown engine, overheating and heat soak
- Used GT3 still a Porsche
- 650S blown engine
- 570S blown engine
- NSX KERS
- DB10 You're kidding, right?

But for those who intend on using the car, then the options appear quite limited.

It doesn't match what my dealer said he was told by Porsche. There are a lot of different stories and a lot of speculation here, that is why I started the thread to see who actually has a confirmed build. The confirmed builds listed in the thread are very limited.

Yeah limited edition deposits don't work.
They get doled out as they see fit.
I had to buy a 4.0 on the Bock market at msrp even though it had 3000 miles on it. And.... This was during the depression of 2008-2011.
