I heard the 7:20 and 7:25 numbers here in RL, and don't know if either has been confirmed (still haven't seen a 'ring video for the 991 GT3 with a Porsche factory driver).

I haven't seen any 'ring lap times for the 50th/GTS. I presume they'll be a bit faster than the C2S.

Should also note that all of the lap times for GT cars and the 918 are on R-comp tires, whereas the other 911s are on summer street tires. That has to be worth at least 1 s on a 1:30 track, and multiple seconds on the 'ring.

The 7:25 number comes from porsche. The 7:20 time is just a rumor. As for the time at willow for this test, it seems a bit disappointing. The difference between the 50th and gt3 could easily be explained just by tires.

Cool review. Thanks for posting.

Glad to see that Carlos made friends with a razor.

They do say there's more time with doing some suspension tuning. Who knows what the alignment is on the car, and that would make a big difference. It would be nice for somebody to do a review and really have the car setup.

Was this a press car?

Not sure what to make of that comment. Comparative lap times should be out of the box, without 'tuning'. Plus, the only adjustment with the PASM GT3 shocks is ride height, and I doubt the factory setting is far (if at all) from optimal. Could play with the sway bars, but again I doubt the factory setting for them is wacky, especially given that there are no reports of excessive understeer.

I would have expected the GT3 to be faster than the 50th by a larger margin at Willow Springs than indicated in the video, but there are just too many variables in terms of tire age, track conditions, etc. to put too much stock in these times. Kind of like the Top Gear board...

Default Thrilled!

Motivated and envious of Lago’s adventure, I decided to take an extra-long lunch and go back-country driving, just like him (even on roads covered with a layer of sand and gravel just like his!).
Great driving car!
The GT3 is so stiff vertically and laterally, that on moderately bumpy back roads, it gives you the impression and satisfaction of feeling like you are driving pretty quickly, with the corresponding extra thrills, without having to overly endanger your driving licence. Great fun.
I think I’ll go do it again by taking the long way home tonight!

Though, as I noted, the delta is similar to that between C2S and the GT3 at the 'ring (with Porsche factory drivers), after adjusting for the longer lap. And the delta would be even smaller with equal tires.

I'm surprised the delta isn't bigger, considering all the go-fast stuff the GT3 has: more aggressive aero, lower height, e-diff, RWS, faster PDK, different gearing, etc.

1:27 is quick on this track for a street car. I'm sure the racers will jump in but willow probably doesn't make that much advantage of the gt3 setup as a more technical track might. it warrants horsepower, aero, *****, and good damping to soak up those bumps.

put in perspective, full on race cars in the Dec POC red race qualifier had (the are classes HP/weight):
gt1 1:18
gt3 1:24
gt4 1:26

The faster times in time attack were low 1:30. These are often street cars, sometimes stripped cars.
