That's cool but what I'd really like to know is what it's like to fly an F4.....

Nothing short of fantastic. over 400 combat missions and then I taught air to air and air to ground. While not the best at anything it was good at everything as long as you flew it as it was designed. I can tell you flying as a fast FAC in North Vietnam ( 500 knots at 100 feet) is the greatest thrill you can have.

400 combat missions!?! That's the real deal. Seriously impressed. Appreciate your service to country and glad you made it back safely.

Capt. Jack G. Merrell, Jr. is the real deal alright...and one of the nicest gentlemen you could ever meet piloting Porsches! Plus he is our current 'Enthusiast of the Year' at PCA! In that highly political club, getting that award was possibly just as difficult as flying & surviving North Vietnamese airspace in 1972! And he deserved it. By the way, I believe Jack is presently both a 997 gt3 RS and 987 Boxster Spyder owner!

Saludos,
Eduardo

Thanks Eduardo, The photo is of Chico a specially equipped F4 E that only five of us were cleared to fly. We patrolled the transportation routes in North Vietnam and let's say reduced the moving efforts of the enemy. The mission was always single ship as there was only one bird configured like this. Wow that was a long time ago.

And yes I have Spyder and a 2011 GT3 both of which bring smiles to this old guys face.

That's awesome stuff Jack! Thanks for sharing that.
And thanks to Nizer for asking the question!
The nose art on Chico looks like some of the F4's that ran Wild Weasel missions?
Just curious. Also your avatar pic reminds me of the Pardo's Push painting.
That's the craziest F4 story I ever heard about.

Let me try and answer a few comments. First "Pardo's push" was an outstanding heroic action, no question. Second I appreciate the comments made BUT each and every soldier, sailer, Marine and Airman that servers and placed his or her life in harms way to protect the freedoms we all enjoy should be honored as they all offered to give all! Sorry but freedom is not free and we have what we enjoy because of those citizens over the history of this fantastic country that gave of themselves for the freedom of all. Sorry or the rant from this old warrior and flag protector.

Now as to the nose art. Most of the F4 E models in SEA stationed at DeNang, Korat and Udorn put sharks teeth on the nose. Later after VietNam they again were painted on the F4's that became Wild Weasels after the F105 "Thud" wild weasel aircraft were retired.

Having killed a few SAM sites I can tell you that going after a missile site will raise the hair on the back of your neck. Wild Weasel pilots are a special breed of heroes

Many thanks for your service, but a simple "Thank You" just doesn't suffice. My father flew KC-135 tankers in Vietnam. Might have refueled you somewhere along the way.

Capt. Jack thank you for your honorable service, and great inspiring story!

Back to topic, it seems that there are some cars and some allocations showing up! Great for those that haven't secured one yet. I was looking at the GTS seriously, but once priced out, it's too close to GT3 territory for me not to move up. My dealer is trying to get an ED for me now. I'm not excited about a February or March in Germany, but you take what you can get I guess.
