OK, then someone should bring a $20k cheaper and 500lbs lighter C7 Z51 or a C6 Z06 wearing the same tires as the Z/28 and run circles around it then do the same for days after its tires get toasted. Only in an alternate universe could a company (GM) market a "race/track weapon" that is 500lbs (can't believe this so easily dismissed, as if we're talking 50lbs) heavier than another model from its own line-up which supposedly is not (a race/track weapon). This is where I smell the BS -- not in the comparison with Porsche or Ferrari.
991 GT3 vs Z/28 is the attached article and topic.

+1. So if you are running it at the track 2+ days a month it will likely cost more to own & operate than a new GT3. I DO think it would be fun, but I definitely don’t see ‘value’ as one of its strong points.

The article basically said the Z/298 is a track car and not good for DD. Despite its best set up, it is still slower than the GT3 at the Ring by a fairly substantial margin. The GT3 according to Porsche does the Ring in 7:25 while the Z/28 set up primarily for the Ring does it in 7:37.
Also, though weighing more it also has 35 more HP than the Gt3.

The GT3 is more challenging to drive (a good thing, we've been told repeatedly)
The GT3 is ultimately faster, even on less capable tires and without PCCB's
The GT3 is a much better car for the street
The GT3 is much more attractive inside and out (subjective, admittedly)
OTOH
The Camaro is cheaper, more bang for the buck
It's made in the USA
Pay your money, take your choice.

GM really did a great job on this Camaro.
The ability to run with the new 991GT3 is fantastic.
To think the Z28 is a C6-Z06 with a weight penalty really shows how capable the outgoing C6-Z06 really is.
The new C7-Z06 with a supercharger will be interesting to see.
Porsche will need twin turbos on the 991RS to keep pace with the likes of this.

^probably rs will be turbo'd- the 9a1 turbo with low redline doesn't have issue with grenading connecting rods. Anyone know if the 9a1 turbo motors are similar to the 9a-1 gt3 motor ie dry sump and all? Mike

The TT 9A1 is not dry sump.

Z/28 is impressive for the price (and impressive period), but I agree that the Trofeo R is likely faster than the GT3 tires. As far as tire wear, yes they won't last long on the Z/28, but the track reports we got from SamTx were that the GT3 tires didn't last long either.

I found this part of the article interesting. A car with PDK and RWS was more difficult to drive than the z/28? Many video reviews of the 991 GT3 say that it's a very easy car to drive fast. Given that the Z/28 is a pure analog experience, manual tranny, what makes it even easier to drive? Isn't that what the purists don't want?

PDK with RWS.... harder to drive? gimmie a break. You can track the car while having a conversation on your bluetooth cell phone.
Alas, this is why i stick to chris harris reviews....
