Default Durametric Alternative

It doesn’t appear that the Durametric Pro fully supports the 991.2 software, and in particular does not fully support GT3 (per website). On my 991.2 GT3, for example, the “Inspection Now” message cannot be reset, while the oil and interim service reminders can be reset. Does anyone have a recommendation for an affordable alternative?

There isn't one that I have found. You would think Porsche would allow you to reset the services messages from the dash, I can in my F150.

This device apparently works on the 991.2's not sure about GT's being supported or not

I haven’t found one either.

My recommendation may are to either buy one and know you will get 50% or more back when you sell it. Rent one for $60 on eBay. Or if you have other Porsche friends in the area just all go in on it together.

I have even considered buying one and renting it out to Rennlist members for less than the $60, but not sure it is going to be worth the time and hassle.

I hate to say it but one of the reasons I recently bought a 997 GT2 is that the 991 is not meant to be worked on by its owners, or shall we say that its actively discouraged. Dealer service departments are quite profitable don't you know.

I’ve found my .2 GT3 very DIY friendly and my dealer resets the computer for free if I provide receipts and my log of work performed with dates and mileage.

I wish were as easy as dropping in a dealer or indie, I actually have an excellent indie that would do it without donuts. The problem for me is they are all 400 miles away, and right not it is snowing. Oh well, I’ll park it and the cab for the winter and take in in the spring.

First question is why didn't they make the 991 ECU respond to the older (Durameteric) maintenance reset command? That was an intentional decision by engineering.

You need PIWIS to service the transmission and other routine maintenance tasks that you could do on your own in your garage on earlier cars.

Next, why the carbon fiber engine cover when you open the engine compartment (other than to cover up all the plastic you would see on the top of the 991 engine).

Dont even get me started on the aluminum centerlocks that get ruined if you try to use a high powered racing air wrench on.

Ever tried to change the air filter? OMG give me a break!!!

I can confirm the iCarsoft POR V2.0 works on the 991.2 GT3 to reset the service reminders. I also tried the iCarsoft POR II which is an older product and it did not work. So if you are going to pick up one of these make sure it's the right model. The V2.0 has an F1 and F2 keys on the left had side of the display.

The live data polling also works. Not sure if the other functions work, as I did not test.

Another for the iCarsoft POR V2.0. Resets all of the different maintenances. Durametric is garbage.

Have you confirmed that there is access to the Battery function (to change to Lithium) and ABS bleeding function?

Can you read over-revs?

it doesnt read over revs, but neither does durametric right now. I did mess around with the POR and the steering wheel sensor reset does work. I was able to induce the steering wheel error permitted to drive in the message display. i then used the tool to run the reset procedure and it works, the sensor reset and message went away.

Haven’t had time to test any other function.
