An engineer at Porsche once confided that one of the most challenging aspects of the modern 911 is the design of the rear tires. They are absolutely critical to making the rear engine layout viable, and thus are engineered to the maximum (or one might say within in an inch of their life). I’ve separately heard that the GT cars such as the GT3 don’t offer a rear seat option because the weight of additional passengers would require up-rating the rear tire load rating, negatively impacting performance.
Given this it’s perhaps surprising that the GT2 RS with an extra 100 lbs over the rear axle plus additional torque and speed potential uses the same tires as the GT3 RS. That car gets a 14% increase in rear tire load capacity over the GT3. Perhaps that’s enough for sufficient margin for the GT2 as well, but the failure noted above does make one wonder.
Interesting point Pete. With Manthey's bigger aero package you'd think if this was an issue they would either uprate / change the tire spec. I saw them running both Dunlop's and Cup2s on the MR 2RS.
UPDATE
The tyre was sent back to the seller for a complaint examination.
The seller found no technical grounds to accept the complaint but offered a 75% refund (according with the tyre wear) for the single tyre in the name of prioritising customer satisfaction...

Always great when a thread is UPDATED. Good work, Greenhorn.
Bottom line, it's not really about the money but about the confidence in the essential element of the car.
All of that is lost.
If you track your car, can you still go fast on the autobahn?
I swapped my almost new second set of Dunlops back to Cup2s after seeing this failure.
^^^ All tires can fail - about 18 months ago I had a new/near new Cup 2 N1 let go on track - basically charged hard through a fast double apex and was hitting close to 240 (KMH) on the straight when the TPMS came on showing low pressure in outside rear left. I got the speed off without over hard braking and managed to get through a right hander straight into pits - fortunately not a catastrophic failure but still a close run thing. e.g. flat within 30s and only recognised quickly due to TPMS. Michelin inspected the tire and replaced at no cost (after about 4 weeks). BTW this was delamination starting at the outer edge bottom seam (with leak occurring through the upper sidewall seam).
If you have an unusual failure stand your ground - on these cars Dunlop and Michelin will come to the party if there is a manufacturing defect (which is actually rare).
This happened after only 12 heat cycles at Road Atlanta with my .2 RS. I had read through this thread and this one (https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-gt3rs-and-911r/1154878-disappointed-with-the-new-dunlops-after-all-4.htm). You guys think it's a manufacturing defect? Started 27/28 cold and bled down to 32/34 hot. Stayed off the curbing for the first two laps, but I wonder if I should have stayed off the curbing for the entire first session (per Joe's comment elsewhere).

Well that totally sucks. I've gone through 3 sets of Dunlops so far and this hasn't happened to me yet. You are not the only one that this has happened to though. I wonder if there is a common factor or if this a manufacturing problem? The inner tread of my tires always look barely worn because it's all outer edge that kills the tire for me. Interesting that it's the inner edge that gets delaminated.
