Default Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R are finally here!!!!

Just found this info about the new tire of the 2RS and 3RS 991.2, sale starts on the end of July on performance shops!! Available now only on the 265/35R20 and 325/30R21 sizes

You can notice the big difference in tread pattern!! 🤤🤤

Hope GT2RS customers start dropping the 7:00 time on Nürburgring...

How do the prices compare to the non-R tires? Will they come with 20" GT3 sizes later?

What's the difference between this tire and the Cup 2 N2 which I saw on 2/3RSes? I have not seen any tires that say "Sport Cup 2 R" on them.

More aggressive compound and tread pattern (what there is left)

It’s the new secret sauce tire that Porsche developed for the 2 and 3RSs. It’ll be a only track tire with a special compound and tread pattern, compared to the N2 that works on wet too. Porsche submitted on their website they used this tire for the records. Some 2RS Owners complain the N2 is not enough and the best time on Nürburgring is 7:03

Makes sense, so no RSes will come with these tires from the factory. Maybe Porsche will add an option...

Exactly! Only as an extra option of the dealer!

This looks like a non-run flat version of the OEM MPSC2 ZP tyre found on the C7 Corvette Z06 with the Z07 option. The same tyre found as an option on the AMG GT R; (alas not in the US though).

Unofficial word from a Porsche factory driver, the R is 5-8 seconds faster at the ring than the regular Cup 2.

to be honest that's not really much at all, over a 7 minute lap...

Not really - those have lower thread depth and the perpendicular treads do not go all the way to the shoulder on the outside:

And I hope these new tires are different anyway because Corvette-spec tires have really poor longevity, although the grip is great.

From what I've heard, they will cost twice as much as the regular Cup2, and the wear rating is double.(e.g. they will only last half the distance)
so extra grip for 4x the running cost...?

Great if you want to baffle your mates in similar cars. Would not mind giving them a try but as long as I cannot sort my extreme cording on rear outside tyre, I will give these a miss. Currently getting about 5-600 track km on outside rear so not keen on reducing that to half.

I was planning to baffle my mates without them ;-)

I'd probably give them a try once, but wear rate is the big thing - at least want to be able to to do a few hundred miles on a road trip, use them for a day or so on track and stil drive same distance home.
