1) Why are these failures not covered under warranty?
2) I’ve only seen and read about GT3s and GT4s affected.
Has anyone seen or heard of a 991.2 GTS or S or Carrera having the failure?

Strut Tower Failures
I find it very suspicious that a friend received a re call on his new 718 Boxster to install additional support rivets in the shock towers. The recall notice which I have a copy of specifically stares this is related to only the 718 Boxster??? Porsche is denying responsibility for these failures, then why are they recalling the 7128's to make this fix??? Can you say Class Action Suit with me.

Porsche is recalling nearly 14,400 cars because a crash could cause gas leaks that lead to fires.
- 2017-2019 Porsche 718 Boxster
- 2017-2019 Porsche 718 Boxster S
- 2017-2019 Porsche 718 Cayman
- 2017-2019 Porsche 718 Cayman S
- 2018-2019 Porsche 718 Boxster GTS
- 2018-2019 Porsche 718 Cayman GTS
Porsche says cars made after February 15, 2019, are not affected because the lower longitudinal crash beam components were reinforced using additional rivets.

Part
The problem is that the part is cheap bu Porsche wont sell it to you, I need 991 501 478 00 GRV and they only can sell to an authorized body shop that wanst to charge 10k to put it on. Any advice?

So purchase it from the body shop but don't have them do the install. Also... $10K to replace blown strut tower seems reasonable. Most repairs like this are $20K+ from what I've heard.

The body shop wont sell it to me unless they installed it, i tought 10k was a lot for a simple tower install, my normal body shop said they can do it for me if I get the part.

I'd have an authorised Porsche repairer do the job.

Three Wheelin'
Jeez. Replaced a shock tower on my BMW, was like 3-4k. Steel vs Al but same remove/replace welded and bonded part. Not saying $20k+ isn't common, more that the Porsche tax feels strong on this one....

It seems a bit of an outlier at $20k for a strut tower repair when you consider a new Honda Civic can be had for less than $20k.😂😂

Have you seen the work required to fix this on a GT3? I have. $20K is a lot, but that's what it costs from what I've seen. And it's a lot more than just throwing in a new tower mount, bonding it, and bolting the suspension back together. Get that tower misaligned even the slightest and it throws the entire suspension geometry out of whack. And to blow the tower out in the first place, the car took a huge hit. Usually it's not JUST the shock tower that's damaged... I'm not saying $20K is justified. But that is what reputable shops are charging. Bring it to Joe's Automotive and they may charge less, I dunno. It's an insurance claim either way, no?
