Default "Clubsport" build underway

And so it begins. The 6MT GT3 is fantastic, it really is, but it can certainly be better. I'm building my definition of a "Clubsport" package, as follows. I think it's a well-rounded build, that is still totally streetable. This covers my main areas of interest, except for the LSD, which I hope Guard will soon have some info for us upon getting their hands on an OEM unit. Maybe we get lucky and Porsche decided to actually use a decently functioning/robust LSD design? Doubtful. A few interesting things, IMO:

1. No need for 6pt harnesses, Schroth makes a Porsche-specific, carbon bucket 4pt belt. This way you don't have to have a stupid lap belt in the way for street driving, or for passenger, and you don't have to cut holes in your passenger bucket. It's road legal, and sled tested with for safety, with anti-sub tech proven. Not sure why more people don't use these for dual-purpose cars. I use these in my M3 with stock seats and they are fantastic.

2. For the same price that you spend on monoball-ing every joint in the car, you can get better performance from upgrading the shocks and springs to a more "clubsport" oriented package. I'm keeping all arms/joints stock, except rear shock mount. I talked myself into Ohlins TTX over the Bilstein Clubsports. Really looking forward to checking them out, especially on track. Ohlins data and support are outstanding, and I like that they have recommended setup for the shocks for both Road and Track right out of the box.

3. Contrary to what many may think, the rear shock mount on a 991 GT3 is not a monoball, it's just a standard 991 mount. Even the GT4 gets monoball mounts at all 4 corners. Bilstein Clubsport package comes with monoball rear upper mounts, so I sourced a set from Elephant racing to go with my Ohlins, since Ohlins use stock top mounts.

I'll follow up with some initial feedback on the suspension, etc. once installed, as we get prepared for the first track event of the season. Some parts are already rolling in....

-Ohlins TTX suspension
-Ohlins PASM delete/bypass kit
-Tarrett "Race" Monoball front camber plate

-Elephant Racing monoball upper rear shock mounts
-TPC valved side muffler delete
-GMG LMS rollbar
-Schroth 4pt Belt - for Porsche carbon seats
-Winning Formula Seat brackets - to address seat angle
-AP Racing/Essex Rotors (F & R)
-Stainless steel brake lines (6)
-Tarrett Caliper stud kit
-Trofeo R (265/325) – BBS Monoblocks
-Brake pads (DS1.11, PFC11, or RT RE10)
-Brake fluid flush (Endless or Ferodo)
-Alignment (CW and ride height set - TBD)

4-point belts don't get used since most track groups only allow 7,6,5 or original 3 point belts. If you plan to do any track driving check with the groups you run with.

Looks like this will be a nice build.

A DOT approved Schroth 4pt with ASM should be equal to a 3pt for most groups....

Yep....... BMW, Audi, VW, Subaru all have Schroth 4pt. belts approved for HANS and DOT use, which is why every organization allows them (and encourages them if you use a HANS). PCA, BMWCCA, NASA, and every other regional track-day group.

Porsche never had their own specific Schroth belts until now, which is why PCA never "allowed" 4pt belts for Porsche cars, but they would allow Schroth 4pt Quickfits for BMW's, for example. Obviously I run 6pt. belts in my race cars, but for a street/track car, these are great. Glad they are finally an option for the Porsche crowd.

Actually PCA allows them for their events. Read the min stds. Its regions that modify those.

OK, one more quick important point that we learned (also from when dealing with the GT4). You CAN gain camber via the front shock mount by using the "Race" monoball front camber plate from Tarett. There is plenty of room to offset the shock more inboard to give even more camber without shimming. You gain about 1.1 degrees more camber at the strut top, thus, requiring WAY less shimming to achieve well over 3 degrees, and you can run higher caster without front liner rubbing.

IMO, if you want to keep stock arms, and not shim to the point of unsafe, this is a better solution, instead of adding solid pucks to stock arms, or using a whole solid puck/arm setup which is a lot more expensive. Been proven on many GT4 cars from my local shop, Winning Formula.

You will love the Ohlins TTX. I have them in a 3 way version on my 6GT3 track car. Just an awesome coilover and drives so nice. What spring weights are you going with?

I have used the 4 point belts in my 11 M3 also. They are ok and better than 3 points, but I definitely don't feel as secure as a true 6 point harness. They also rely on your 3 way belt pre-tensioners to give the anti-sub the the sub belts would normally give. I don't like the idea of two systems working in concert to save my life, but I hope they work out for you.
