next 991.2 GT3 confirmed prod late '16
hold your breath
Turbo!!!!! Yes the badge will be GT3 not GT2
not the current bi turbo iteration
i cant say more it will be a very special turbo
BUT then 991.1 GT3 IS the last NA GT3!!!!
(as discussed here many months ago...)
this explains the picture of Official! German already selling
991.1 used GT3 at 200k ! (over MSRP)
next 991.2 GT3 confirmed prod late '16

Isn't this inevitable?
Isn't this part of the reason why Porsche moved from air cooled?
How much more performance can be extracted from an NA 6 cyl and still be drivable on the road?
The new GT3 will need to meaningfully outgun a 991.2, which is already pretty strong on paper.
A Turbo S Cayenne has a sub 4 second 0-60. We say such things shouldn't matter at this level (and they shouldn't) but that is not the reality.

I thought this would occur in the next generation, not the 991.2. Glad I just picked one up!
However, with a 0-60 time to rival the turbo S due to the new turbos; and the usual improvements in handling, it could be killer car.

I really hope this isn't true. I love Turbo cars, but the thing that has made the GT3 unique over the years is the fact that it's N/A and high revving. Putting a Turbo into a GT3 mean's it's nolonger a GT3 in my opinion.

The GT3 hasn't been a "GT3" since the 997.2, but it is still an enjoyable car. The 991.2 will be great whether turbo or not, because frankly, history proves that Porsche knows what we really want better than we do ourselves.

Late 16 sounds a bit early no? Or is that prototypes before March 2017 Geneva Launch?
I've heard nothing on the subject so if the source is solid then we must consider it a real possibility.
The MA175 in the GT3 in that case will remain as probably the highest revving petrol Production engine Porsche will ever make. I understand we should see tbd MA 175/6 engine debut in a months time in a racing car too for the first time.
Only supporting evidence for what fxz is true I have is a Dealer sales employee telling me the GT3/RS would be last NA engine some months ago (I didn't take that with any credence) and the race program stating vis PMS employee recently that the 9A1 would only see short service life in racing (no explanation given) that it was a stop gap between programs and may only run 2 years.
On the balance of things the GT3 loosing NA engine seems unlikely to me. It would kill the GT3 it will no longer be a GT3. The PDK was one thing - I can live with that but replacing a 9000 rpm mill with a 8000 rpm that has a hairdryer bolted to it - no way - not for me at the race track thanks....
