The Stone Grey headliner on our '08 Cayman is sagging and it is time to replace/repair. Somewhat disappointing after just 9 years.

My wife likes the alcantara headliner on our '14 991. I've looked through the Cayman PET and an alcantara headliner isn't mentioned. Was alcantara an option on the Cayman? I don't recall. I have seen that Suncoast offers it on their website.

Has anyone done an alcantara headliner mod and if so, a picture would be great.

My Cayman S is a 2010 built in August 2009. My headliner went this past June. I'm not happy at all about it. Total BS. Worse yet... my CPO finished up this past December. I expect better from Porsche and their technology.

 

I did this about a year ago after my headliner started sagging. Had a local upholstery shop do the work, and I'm really pleased. I need to do a second phase that continues the alcantara onto the rear hatch, though, to get a nice continuous look.

 

That looks great! How does the transition look from the headliner to the back of the car?

 

I got a generic suede alcantara for the headliner and A-pillar. The transition to the OE hatch material looked terrible. So went back to the shop and did the hatch and also had the plastic in the cabin and hatch area done too.

Very cool. I have charcoal grey alcantara headliner, which I have used on my door surrounds (A/C pillar) and now the rear hatch center fabric.

I like Tach Miami's use of the headliner as the plastic surrounds on the hatch insert. I just sprayed mine in anthracite plastidip. Might have to go back and try to wrap them. I don't want my car to look like too much of a cuddly muppet, though. ;-)

My material is the same that KahalaM5 has, and I hope to get to pull the headliner out next spring and do this. I might have a pro do the layup, to get the correct adhesion and curves around the console cutouts.

 

 

My guy had the sample board from: http://www.jacobsupholstery.com/inc/sdetail/623It could have been the street suede or one of the other products listed on top. The first roll had foam that was already delaminating in pieces but the second was fine. I don’t think it stretched that much but it did work around the curves.

 

I had VWs and Audi that did that. Germans are known -- to me -- to use cheap glue that falls apart 8-10 years.

 

The headiner on my 2011 Porsche Cayman is sagging, this is the kind of problem, I would expect from a lesser car/brand.
I have owned many cars over the years, and have never had this type of failure before, not on my Nissan, not on my Ford not on my Chevy.
So to have this happen on an upscale brand like Porsche is very disappointing! Makes me wonder where else they used substandard products.

 

Don't feel too bad, mine is a 2014 and the cloth headliner is drooping badly. Taking it in this week for alcantara replacement.

 

I lnow i is frustrating,. My power steering pump went out and the Porsche dealer wants $3200 yo repace it.

 

Has anyone got a quote from a dealer? curious what they would charge.

 

I have an OEM non sagging headliner in good condition, available for cheap. non smoker, removed at 18k miles if anyone is interested.
