Default a moment of distraction

A month ago I was pulling my precious dark blue Boxster S into a parking space right behind a pick up truck. I have driven her daily for years and thousands of miles so it came as a shock to me that as I wanted to slow down, I sped up. When I hit the back of the pick up van and pressed harder on the pedal, only to find that my foot was on the gas. OMG. PANIC!!! One moment of distraction and I hurt her badly. $20,000 of repairs. I hope I am the only person who drove their precious Porsche into a pick up while parking.

Ouch, glad you are ok. My wife did something similar many years ago although she managed to hit a concrete wall. Nearly $11k damage on a then fairly new CRV. It happens...

Hopefully the pickup truck driver wasn't too upset.

Just a reminder that when we're driving, we SHOULD be 100% concentrated on that while the car is moving... and even when it's not, checking your 6 until several cars are parked behind, etc. And yes, as we get older, those moments are easier to come by, so we have to be even more focused on driving. You must have had some serious $hit going thru your head, no? But glad you shared this with us, as sometimes we all have things in our minds that really distracts us if we don't put them aside and concentrate on driving. I learned to do that decades ago after a close call, when I didn't believe I could get distracted just with my mind. WRONG. Glad it was just a parked truck. Now never do that again. Hey, were you just taking a picture, or checking out that woman at the same time? Ha ha. Just kididng. Good luck with the repairs brother.

I had a similiar situation, sorta.

I was pulling into an apartment complex, with a round about near one of the loading docks for moving. This pick up truck jammed pack with stuff in the back started to reverse, towards me! I sat there like deer in headlights and my girlfriend finally blurted out to honk at him!

So I finally did and he stopped. Thankfully. Sometimes I get distracted to the disaster about to happen rather than to react and avoid it.

Man, that sucks Lexz. Worse of all is that you did it to yourself and you could have avoided it. We've all done it to some extent.

Hopefully you'll get the baby fixed good as new, and it will just be a dim (and fading) memory soon.

parts came to $11k plus paint at $560 and labor at $5k (rest is tax). Major parts are headlamp $1.5k, hood $1k, radiator $1k, radiator support panel $2.3k and front bumper $2k. It is really amazing how many parts are in the first foot!
