987.1 Cayman S -- thoughts on pricing?
I've been looking at getting a Cayman for the last year or so now. Really wanted to order one to my liking, but I missed the boat on the '16 models and with the mixed reviews about the '17's turbo 4, I've been branching out into used models.
With that said, I found an '08 S with mileage that's below 4K. Manual transmission and from the few pics I got it looks like it has a Bose stereo but not too sure on any of the other options and I don't think the owner knows either as they bought it on a whim from the dealership back when new (I am trying to find out the actual options as we speak).
Assuming a "basic" S and everything is in excellent condition, would the car be worth $40K or is that too much? Private owner, full history, etc.
Thanks.

After doing a LOT of shopping online lately, I'd say with that low mileage it would be mid-high 30's, depending on if there are some desirable options.
In another forum I ran across this URL: https://admin.porschedealer.com/repo...AB2A82CS780221
Replace the VIN at the end with the VIN of the car you're interested in. It will show you the build sheet.

Hello and Welcome Todd_M.
Way too much IMHO. Even if in perfect condition and hardly driven, I'd say $35,000-ish tops.
Low mileage (under 40,000 miles) 987.1's are cheap and plentiful. To wit:

If you will ever track the car, you might want to get a 987.2 (MY 2009-2012) as the 987.1's have some "features" that were corrected in the second generation, but can be durn expensive to repair and a little expensive to correct.
Copy this to your browser and add your VIN after the equal sign to display the car's options.

Good luck,

$40K is too much. $35K-$37K if the car is immaculate, well maintained and well optioned.
From what I have seen and heard low mile 987.1s are getting harder to find. Lots of higher mileage ones out there.
In fact my local dealer keeps bugging me to sell or consign my 27K mile '06 CS manual as he says he has a long list of buyers waiting for a good low miles car.

That's a nice link. I'll get the VIN and see what shakes out.
I'm aware of the 987.1 shortcomings, but to be honest I probably won't be tracking this car. Only upgrade I'd really like to have is adding a mechanical LSD, but otherwise I'd be pretty happy as-is.
I also might wait and see how much the dealer would be willing to deal on a custom order '17 considering the (bad) press they've been getting.

LSD is not just for the track. It makes every car way more fun to drive, even on the street. I wasn't going to do an aggressive clutch-style though, probably just a mechanical like the Quaife.
Heck, even my MX-5 Club Sport makes good use of the LSD and that only has 170ish HP.

Keeping my NA Miata and will be adding an ND when the "Retractable Fastback" comes out end of this year.
Regarding the 987.1, I have an '06, 68k miles. Absolutely terrific car, have loved it since I purchased it in 2009. Don't rule it out just to go with a new (or newer one). Frankly, when push comes to shove in a year or two, I will probably keep the Cayman and the Boxster Spyder will probably go. Just have not connected with it in the same way as the Cayman...
