Hi John,
Joe from NY here. Great thread and thanks for bringing ti to my attention! I had read it before, but forgot all about it. Just one quick question:
If I need to pass NY State emissions every year and not trigger noise limits at Lime Rock Park, what combination is possible and or recommended for the maximum "bang for the buck" if I am purely interested in power increases and not concerned about sound?
Thanks a bunch!

The biggest restriction point in regards to power on these cars is in the headers, and the most power in the curve relevant to benefit track use requires going catless.
There is also some great power potential in upgrading the TB/Plenum, and was chatting with A432 about how much of an improvement he saw with this on his CR. I also drove a local client's 987.2 Cayman S with this equipped and it has a marked improvement in the low/mid range. That will be my next upgrade. Would also recommend the Desnorkel mod to keep the intake temperatures lower during track use if you haven't already done so, and our Vflow or Competition Intake to help air flow in.
That being said, catless is louder than catted and does pose a risk for decibel limited tracks like Limerock, however I have GT4 client running our Race Headers, Maxflo Exhaust, and our Turndown Tips and he passed Limerock by 2 DB last year. You should be within a safe sound range with the same setup albeit with factory mufflers, or with our Maxflo exhaust if you'd like to additionally get a bit more power out of the catback system as well.
Another great improvement in performance, throttle response, and power delivery is a custom protune. This also doubles as a solution to your emissions test. Our tuner can tweak the ECU software to set readiness monitors even without cats to help go through the computer portion of the test, although you'd have to find someone a flexible (or lazy) to not look for the cats under the car. Worst case scenario, the headers are a breeze to switch out. Takes at most two hours and is staring you in the face once you get the car in the air. The time spent to switch back to factory once a year to pass emissions is a small price to pay for the benefits on track.
Give me a ring today when you have a chance (215 646 4945 ext. 101), I would love to chat more in depth about everything so you can make an educated decision moving forward. We can also make some plans to hit the track together

I could notice no drone at all with valves closed. Valves open you could hear some exhaust noise but i wouldn't call it drone exactly. Either was it was perfectly comfortable in both modes of PSE, but valves closed particularly sounded just like factory. Here is a video in cabin, you can hear how remarkably quiet it gets when I close the valves between 1:50 and 3:45.

Sounds mean John! Definitely interested to see the before / after dyno results of adding the IPD plenum and throttle body to this package. I wonder what the incremental gains will be considering the IPD claims of 20 hp / 15 tq on a car with exhaust modifications. Is that still the plan? A net 50whp gain over stock with the race header / catback / IPD would be insane!

IPD Plenum/TB, Desnorkel Mod, and Intake is next on the list!

50whp is not possible on this car FYI haha. 40whp would be a stretch but just might be possible, what really matters is maximizing the performance under the curve

Here is the Phase 2 I just did, only added the catback. Picked up 6-7whp on the dyno over the Cayman R PSE with the larger inlet pipes, and definitely pulls much harder in the top end.

Hey, just doing some claimed-gain math... 27 whp with race headers according to your dyno, another 6 whp with the catback... leaves only 17 hp left to reach 50
If IPD's claims are true in the 15-20 hp gain, you're there, right? Of course I understand that area under the curve is what really moves the needle in terms of usable performance. Regardless, it will be interesting to see the final results.

How are things going with your car?

Its not gaining 17hp lol. However, I have driven a 987.2 CS back to back with my CR with the same mods but his with the plenum/TB package...WAY better responsiveness throughout the curve and the top end was much improved. Worth every penny regardless of what the dyno ends up showing.

Things are going well, thanks for asking! Still absolutely loving the race headers. I installed the latest tune from Steve trying to tune out the cat codes, but haven't yet had an opportunity to put any miles on it due to business travel this last week... Fingers crossed for when I get back! Has it been solved for your car?

Glad you're enjoying the headers! I haven't had any CEL with the new file myself, although i've been beating it to death the last thousand miles so not normal driving conditions haha

For those of you that have installed sport or race headers, have you noted any reduction in torque at the lower RPM's? I'm not talking actual torque curves, primarily how the car feels when taking off.
