I would like to second John's enquiry as to why one couldn't add beefier or stiffer sway bays to the PASMset up? Would not really change the shocks etc just add to the cornering ability.
If any one knows how the previous 911 SPASM worked, that may shed some light on this.
Thanks
Vince

So in making the assumption that a set of PASM dampers and springs are shorter than stock, and that a set of X73 springs and dampers will be even shorter, the only way you're going to have Sport PASM which I think you can get on a 991, is to have a rear 981 Cayman X73 damper WITH the wiring coming out of the top for PASM. I had figured that this was something that you could not have on a 981 S but that it would be reserved for the GTS but I am wrong. Maybe there's still an R or Spyder variant about to come out with it? Who knows...again...all conjecture.
Either way...our customers have enjoyed the X73 and for the first time ever, we are recommending a factory sport suspension to all of our customers, except those with full blown race cars. The dealer offered suspension with the added 991 GT3 front bar is pretty awesome.

Considering I've NEVER used PASM (always set to "normal" even after turning on Sport mode), it makes a lot of sense to me to get a "free", 20mm sport suspension instead of yet another electronic piece of the puzzle that will someday break down in expensive fashion. I haven't used PASM in the 991/981 generation, but in the 997/987 generation the differences were not very noticeable and certainly not worth the future hassle. The only Porsche in which PASM makes sense to me is the Panamera (air suspension in Cayenne/Macan).

For what it's worth... I never, repeat NEVER used the PASM on my 08 TT. It was simply too rough. I did use the Sport Button that sharpened the throttle response but I would shut the suspension off at the same time.
The Sypder suspension? Sublime. I believe the X73 SS is a direct descendant of the Spyder's suspension which was designed by the same guy that designed the VW GTI suspension. See the Panamara mag article, comparing the Spyder to a base 981 Boxster with the X73, for the details. It goes over spring rates, torsion bars etc... I would not order a 981 without the X73 option. It makes it a TRUE sport car. Go for it. Or pick one the increasingly rare Spyders.
(Ooops... just hijacked the thread.)

To rephrase what 'sfo' wrote above so that there is no misunderstanding. PAG has has not yet offered a sport suspension package on the 991 similar to the x73 of the 981. The sportiest suspension set-up offered on some* of the regular (non-gt3) 991 models is SPASM!

Our friends at Planet 9 forum have also alerted readers to this article on Winding Road re: the 981 suspension of the base Boxster:
"On the suspension side, we think many of you could save the money that all the fancy bits cost. On the street, the base suspension is slightly less tightly controlled and as a result somewhat more entertaining. Please read that sentence again, because it runs against conventional but inaccurate wisdom. At well less than full tilt, a car with ultra-firm body control will tend to be inert and boring. And since, on the street, you are rarely at ten-tenths, the result is that the most firmly controlled cars are often a bit dull. The base suspension on the Boxster therefore helps a bit with the fun quotient."
That same analysis can be perhaps made for the base 991 without PASM. Food for thought.

Definitely X73. Just got my Boxster GTS manual with X73. Blast to drive, and so far no clearance issues despite having some garage lip and incline to go over. Stiff but not harsh. Feels like the way the car was meant to be.

I want to resurrect this discussion because I am toying with the idea of ordering a new Cayman GTS at the age of 70. Please don't tell my wife… I plan to do some track time events but it will mainly be my daily driver around town. I presently drive a Cayenne GTS and drive around town in the PASM sport mode and the low sting combined, and it doesn't feel stiff or low to me, even with the 10x21s with 295/35-21 Continental's on it. Of course it is a 5200lb SUV. We have pretty good streets and roads here in the north Orlando burb area. I'm thinking of going the free X73 analog SS instead of the PASM. I had M030 Sport Suspension on my Boxster S and loved it - especially at Road America. Our home here does have an inclined driveway steep enough to appreciate the hill hold on my Cayenne GTS. Would I have to worry much about about scrapes on driveways and at gas stations with the X73 SS on the Cayman GTS?
Some of you X73 and PASM Cayman GTS owners should be able to tell me by now about your experiences turning into driveways and gas stations....
