Default 918 Type Sport Bucket Seats News

918 Type Sport Bucket Seats appear on German gt3 website! As reported today by Rennteam forum member Rotbart: "Just found the 918 seat option on the German GT3 price list, probably available for MY 2015 cars."

Rotbart also posted the gt3 parts page (first attachment below). It doesn't appear to be the tilt forward (like gt2 type), so same as found on the 918. The gt2 tilt forward sport bucket seats appear to remain an option in Germany and probably ROW, thus giving owners a choice if they need to access rear of cabin. The 918 sport bucket seats come with an integrated thorax air bag! As most of you know, the gt2 type seat which was introduced in the 2008 gt2 and became an option in US models .2 997, .2 gt3's, .2 gt3 RS, '12 Cayman R's and '11 & '12 Boxster Spyder's is no longer available for US 991's or 981's. It is expected that this new 918 type sport bucket seat will meet approval of US DOT.

These 918 type seats were created by Thorsten Klein, a designer for Porsche (see US patent & photo of Thorsten below). He is a friend and fellow R Gruppe member!

After all of our speculation, it's nice to see that they are finally here! Let's see how soon PCNA shows it as an option on the MY2015 gt3 for North America! They are expected to be either standard or an option for sure in the MY2015 gt3 RS for NA! Hopefully, they might become an option in some future .2 981 (gt4, RS Spyder, gts) for North America!

Eduardo

Those seats are stunning! Any ideas on what they weigh and if they include the airbag?

Don't know exact weight. They have adjustability up & down - electrically (so motors). They do have an airbag. I don't expect they'll be 'super light weight', but at least they are made of 'carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). Expect a bit more than your current gt2 type seats on the Spyder!

Thanks for the info, but motorized and no forward tilt? Light, practical, safe, and comfortable are what make the GT2 buckets great - not loving these 918 seats already. Since you have experienced them both, how do they compare in terms of comfort and support?

BTW, the GT2 buckets were available on all Porsche sports cars from 2009 through the end of 987/997 production.

Can you show me examples of a gt2 sport bucket seat on US models regular 987 Boxster (non-Spyder) or 987 Cayman (non-R) that came that way from factory & appears as such as an 'option' in their respective PCNA-issued Monroneys here in the USA? I am curious.

It was my understanding as well that the bucket seats were available as an option on any car in the prior generation lineup as well. My friend optioned his 997.2 TTS with the bucket seats. I distinctly remember those seats being available for those on the configurator. Whether or not anyone actually ordered a non spyder/CR 987.2 with bucket seats from the factory is another issue.

gt2 seats on regular 997 is well documented! 'Mike in CA' and others had them on their regular .2 997's.

Porsche even offered a Meter Grey metallic MY2009 'Intro Package' Carrera 4S with these gt2 seats at special pricing! Let's have Dale tells us more about it:

But that is not my question! Show me examples of regular US 987 models (Boxsters or Caymans) with factory installed gt2 seats as options!

Unlikely that anyone ordered a car from the factory with those seats.

Just curious. IF there was a customer that ordered the seats as an option .. were they at no cost as in the Spyder? What was the price of the seats?

No cost standard option in the spyder and cayman R, which makes it very painful for those that had cars that were not optioned with them

Not sure of others, but with the 997.2 GT3 they were a $2990 upgrade charge.

No cost option in the Cayman R.

The Sport Buckets were I believe a $4500 option on 987.2 except Spyder and R

Option code P03 was right around $3k depending on year and model, as mention by RayDBonz. They were $3,125 on my 2009 C2S order.
