Default Sypder at COTA

I was able to run at the COTA track this past weekend and I was allowed to bring more than one car to run. So took my Spyder and Golf R. The Spyder was bone stock, running it was on new Super Sport Cups. The car went great, but the tires did not give me confidence on the high speed corners. (Soft sidewalls)

My Golf R is the daily driver but I modified it for events like this. I was running 2 seconds a lap quicker than the Spyder, but that gap could be more than made up with track tires and some camber adjustments.

Here is a video of the Golf...there is a Bosxter near the end. I will have the Spyder video up next.

Very nice! How many times have you driven that track? You had your lines really well executed.

IIRC, he's a pro driver. That's probably why he's so good.

That film was my first session after 3 lead follow laps. There are several areas where I can do better. I can't wait to get on again. I was the one who rented the track...that was too much work to do again soon. Someone brought out a Cup Car. Being passed by one of those was insane!

I appreciate the call out. I was a winning factory pro rally driver. I'm typically in the top quarter in track times, but never near the front. It’s a different science that I don't have the talent for!

The course has a very smooth finish, and is really rough on street tires.
You would be much happier on racing rubber with any car, but even more so with the soyder.
Tires tend to grain quickly on that surface.
It is not confidence inspiring until you have something stickier.
I moved to Austin to be in close proximity to that track, so expect to see me there sometime soon.

Are track days there still ridiculously expensive? Taking a car of mine on an F1-sanctioned track is definitely on my bucket list but the first set of track days a while back were monstrously expensive.

Yes, the cost is crazy. $2500/day if you can get a spot on a open group day. Geez.

I found this video today from the same session from the rear of another car:
