Default Clear engine cover??

Morning all,

What are your feelings about exposing the Cayman mid engine under a transparent cover, ala Ferrari, McLaren, Lamborghini? Porsche engines used to be a visual work of art, and now they seem covered by a sea of plastic.

watch out for increased cabin temps. The metal cover design was on purpose according to Cayman engineers.

There are a couple companies that make them. However, as mentioned, the cabin will be louder and warmer. And, in contrast to a Ferrari or Audi engine, the Cayman engine is really nothing special in the looks department. Plus, it's not all that visible as the glass from the hatch is still there. Nothing like a mid-engine F-car or R8.

Search the forums for posts. Seems there are as many people who were unhappy with the mod as there are that were happy.

From the pictures I've seen of the M97, it's not much of a looker. I think I would be slightly embarassed to go through the trouble of doing that, just to show off a bunch of black plastic.

Yeah, it's not pretty like a Ferrari or Lambo engine. I supposed you could mod it to make it nicer looking.

You would definitely have to put some effort into it to make it look nice. See below.

Yeah that would probably make a huge difference.

Finished engine compartment changes the whole aesthetic in a crazy good way! This should be factory approach for sure.....!

I'm thinking about doing this mod, not because I want to see the engine, but for some more engine noise. Anyone have comments on the quality of that noise? If I do it, I will at least paint the covers as the red ones above. I don't think it would cause anymore exhaust drone from my tubi system, would it? No headers yet. Need to keep cats for smog. Anyone.....?

De-snork, K&N, and exhaust woke mine completely up. I just installed an IPD plenum with the GT3 TB, but I haven't taken it out to see how much that did.

I'm surprised by the pictures above. If someone goes to all that work and effort to paint the intake mainfolds, which look sharp, why not install the IPD plenum? It improves looks and breathability.

Also to consider on the clear engine cover, it will reduce fire protection for track use. It will save a few pounds, but not enough to make a difference

Prepare for increase engine noise. I was able to quiet it down with some neoprene around the edges
