Default Performance Tire Choice?

I have a '11 Spyder and I want to upgrade the tires for when I go on the track and autocross. I was going to get the Michelin PS2s but I have been out of touch for a while. Is there anything better out there? I am not doing the extra wheel set....just replacing the OEM tires. Thanks

PS2s? They are kind of yesterdays news as this point. Stock sizes: For street/track MPSS. For track, MPSC.

I'm waiting for Pirelli Trofeo Rs to come out...

I've tasted the sweet nectar of R comps and can never go back....

The Michelin Pilot Super Sports are an alternative to an R Comp tire. From what I've read they work well on the track but if you're running 18" wheels they may be a bit mushy on the sidewall.

I got it.....I was not looking under the "competition" section when reviewing the tires. I prefer a R compound since I don't drive the car in the rain anyway. It looks like I have to go with the "N Spec" to keep the OEM size.

Nitto NT01 are a very good tire for AX and DE, I believe they come is the correct sizes for the Spyder.

Stock sized R comp MPSC is the only option right now.

There were the Pirelli trofeos, but they are being phased out and replaced with the trofeo Rs, which are due out in the fall

NT01 are awesome. Unfortunately they don't come in stock 19"
size. Bensf runs NT01, bit has them mounted on 18" CCW wheels

IIRC, I don't think Nitto NT-01's come in Spyder 19" size? I think you can fit Toyo R888's. Toyo also makes Nitto tires. MPSCs are generally considered semi-R comp's, i.e. not that great for serious performance.

Hoosiers are obviously great but they degrade quickly and don't think they come in Spyder size.

No go on Toyo's either. They make the front tire sizes, the but the rear tires sizes are only 30 on the sidewall, not 35.

Ah. Guess I'll be investing in 18" AM wheels in the future (when I get a trailer).

OK, so I looked this up again because I got a bit confused.

Toyo R888 sizes:

235/35ZR19 87Y 162850 8.0-8.5-9.5 25.7 9.5 6 25
265/30ZR19 93Y RD 168300 9.0-9.5-10.0 25.4 10.6 6 26.4

Looks like OD (overall diameter) of fronts is 25.7" whereas the rear is 25.4", i.e. they'll fit and I think should be fine. IIRC front and rears should be within 6% or so to avoid problems.

Wanted to hijack this thread. What are y'alls thoughts on the OEM Pirelli P-zeros? I need to replace rears but thinking about making the switch to the Michelins.

No personal experience but the reviews don't measure up to Michelins. If you want better performance at decent price, go with Michelin Super Sports.

No experience either but I have also heard that the MPSS are the best offering for the Spyder.

It was just a question of time. Which tires, Joe?
