Default My new Cayman S - Ready to be back on TRACK!

Here is my (new-to-me) 2006 Cayman S. I previously owned a 2008 Cayman S, but after converting it to a full racecar, the costs and practicality outweighed the fun-factor. This time I'm going to drive in Cayman Spec Challenge (CSX). This is the street-legal, drive to the track, keep the interior, kinda class.

After muling over everything from GT3s ($$) to C2Ss to air-cooled 3.2's... when I added up the numbers, I was getting too good a deal on this car. If it had sold to someone else, who knows what I may have ended up with... but here it is. I LOVE the Slate Grey exterior with the Terracotta interior.

This car already has the following work done:

Suspension
- Bilstein PSS9s
- GT3 Lower Control Arms
- GT3 Front swaybar
- Tarret Rear swaybars
- Tarret Front and Rear droplinks
- Tarret Rear Toe Control-Arm
- Tarret Camber Plates

Engine/Drivetrain
- IPD Plenum (to be removed for car classification)
- BBI Underdrive Pulley
- AWE Tuning Exhaust
- GIAC Tuned
- Quaife TBD

Safety
- GT3 Euro seats
- BBI Rollbar
- Schroth 6-pt Harnesses

Standard Features
- Full Terracotta Leather interior (worth 3 points on date-night)
- Navigation
- Sport Chrono (GIAC Tuning has two-modes that can be changed with the Sport button)

Things to do
- Mantis Sump Extension v2
- 987 Air Oil Separator
- 3rd Radiator
- Power Steering Cooler
- Pagid Yellows/Oranges
- GT3 Brake Ducts
- Track wheels/tires

I can't wait to be back out on the track! For more details on Cayman Spec and Cayman Challenge check out http://www.caymanspec.com

I haven't had a chance to do it myself, but I think it's a little involved having to remove the x-brace. It also has the 'harness bar' portion of the rollbar covering the engine cover so I'm not suer if that'll be tricky. Since the car came with it, I'll keep it as-is and let you know. I prefer Hergesheimer's setup as they have far less 'interference' with the engine cover.

It isn't too difficult to remove and replace the X-bar, once it has taken a set in the car (it was a booger to get in the first time). A couple of good blows with a rubber mallet over a towel on the X will usually remove it (after removing the 8 retaining bolts of course). To replace it you just have to get the 4 notches lined up carefully before you pull the X piece back up into place.

I have removed the carpet and engine cover with the X bar in place, but it is awkward and a bit of a chore (you have to remove them towards the cockpit).

Definitely going with Pagid Yellows and Motul. Had Oranges/SRF on my last CS and it was on the fritz 80% of the time. Won't upgrade the calipers though. Solid as they are.

What is the Hergesheimer setup? I'm looking at roll bar options for my Cayman R that I have on order and I haven't come across that one yet.

Very nice car. Enjoy on the track. I am doing the same with my 08 CS as soon as the 911SC track car is sold

Macleod- Looks like you found the link on R/T. Much prefer that rollbar as it is race legal and also doesn't obstruct your view through the rearview mirror.

As an update, I finally had the new Mantis Oil Pan installed. Things are moving a bit slowly due to a recent purchase (a house!) but hopefully I'll make it out to Thunderhill later this year.

Then next year we move to Columbus, OH so it should be fun heading out to Mid-Ohio!

Yeah I think that roll bar will work nicely. It is a shame it takes away an inch or two of seat travel, but it is a small price to pay for a really well built and safe roll bar. I'm going to be ordering it a little later this month.
