Default Opinions on CDR-30 stereo

We have a 2009 Boxster with the CDR-30 stereo system. We are not that happy with the sound. Not sure if it is the standard speakers or the lack of any sound coming from the rear. Anyone replace the speakers and have any luck with this standard head unit? The bluetooth works quite well on a positive note. Lack of Sirius is not that great as the NY metro stations are terrible and have way too many commericals.

Radio sounds poor, the Aux Connection with ipod sounds good but not great. I had to mess with the sound settings and definitely turn the loud button off. The guys on Planet 9 were talking about connecting a line out on an ipod which they say improves the sound considerably when the ipod is connected. Might be worth a shot.

I tried using the Aux in connector with my BlackBerry and it was fair at best. I don't have an iPod yet I'm waiting for iPhone 5 as my Bold is over 2 years old now. I am thinking of paying the $2.99 per month to use the BlackBerry Sirius App so I can listen to Howard Stern in the morning instead of static and commericals. I made a 700 mb mp3 cd and it sounds actually pretty good and lets me store like 200 songs on one disc. I am surprised this thing reads raw mp3.

Its the head unit, its very poor quality. The stock speakers are actually decent if you replace the main head unit in the car. I installed a Double DIN Pioneer XB-120BT that made an incredible difference in the sound quality using only the stock amp and speakers (I did add the rear factory speaker kit to my Boxster). Coupled with in-dash NAV, ipod integration, Pandora streaming (if you have an iPhone) and Bluetooth phone, this is the only way to go for my money.

You will also see my remote Escort 9500ci in the photo where the sunglasses pocket normally would be.

Any pics of the rear factory speakers? How much were they? Are they pre-wired from the factory?

Very nice job. Since the factory Bose amp is fiberoptic, did you need to use a fiberoptic MOST interface to keep the factory amp?

and yes, my CDR-30 is pitiful. Just about unusable with the top off.

Mine was a CDR-24 so it was not a Bose. I didn't have to touch the Amp at all to use the new head unit (though I had to splice into it for the rear speaker upgrade I had done earlier). There's a connector kit and bezel through Euromotospeed out of Florida that makes all the wire-ups easy and done right at the head unit. He has a mod for the Bose units, but its only another step and done with no problem. To do this right you need these parts and about 6 hours spare time:

http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-AVIC-Z...3273894&sr=8-1

As for the rear speaker kit, I bought mine a year earlier from Euromotorspeed as well, but I don't think they are offered any longer. It didn't work worth a hoot with the CDR-24, but really came alive with the Pioneer, which if you install it will have enough power to where you can't crank it up all the way with the top off and at 70 mph. That's how much difference there is....why Porsche puts such a sad radio in their cars is beyond me.

I have the 2008 Design Edition 2 which has an all-leather black/grey combo interior with some Alcantara sprinkled in for good measure.
