Ok, so it took me a few emails to get thru the nonsense and make him realize I knew what I was looking for and knew my CF but here is his response.

" there is no foam or honeycomb needed.
the inner is finished in black gelcoat but if you want both sides carbon fiber it will cost $1000.
thanks
- idrive135i "

What that means in english for those that don't know is that this is NOT a full Carbon Fiber part, which means it's not as light as it could be. And also why it is the price it is. I estimate $1000. will be around what I will charge for mine as well in FULL Carbon Fiber, only it will be much lighter and stronger than this Ebay one. The key to getting the weight is keeping less resin in the product as well as using all CF instead of mixing CF and gelcoat (or FRP)(fiberglass). Depending on the strength I may use a honeycomb or foam core for additional strength as needed.

I'll update when I have a part in hand to show and weigh and quote a price.

Viking

ps: He never gave me an actual weight number on how much his part weighed after 3 emails of asking for it.

It's taking longer than normal because of other CF projects that were ahead of it but we have a mold and will be working on the actual hatch over the next 2 weeks. When I have one I am proud of showing and is worthy of selling I will then offer pictures and weights of it on here and then can take some orders if anyone is interested in them.
I promise the wait will be worth it. It will be a high quality, light weight race part offered at a fair price.

We have gotten these cars to 2700lbs with no carbon fiber anywhere. If you want weight savings, buy a pair of 997 Cup doors or knockoffs and cut the windows off. That's about 75lbs right there.

Are 997 cup doors a direct bolt-on for Caymans?

True CF Hatch is done but I've been working on the rest of the car and still need to do the lexan window, weigh hatch, and take some nice pictures. Will try to do over the next week and will post here.
