Default Help buying 987?

Looking to sell the Carrera and buy a new or used 987. Haven't been keeping up with the 987 since I sold my 2003 986 and bought the Carrera. Can someone help me decide what year model I need to be looking for. I can afford new, but used is ok if I can buy a low milage car. Don't need an "S" as I have found after owning the Carrera for 3 1/2 years that more HP doesn't = more fun.

Thanks for the input.

Here are my quick thoughts:

1) If used, buy at least the 2006, this was the second model year of the re-design (never like buying the first MY)
2) Get the "S". Coming from a Carrera, you'll want the HP (2006....280 HP's vs your current 320ish). A base would have 240.
3) If you are concerned about things like the IMS, you may have to get a very new one
4) The 987 is a great Porsche!

*on a side note, the color of your past car is spelled wrong (very common). It's Carrara White. The Carrara Mountain range is in Italy. Know to have very white marble.

2009 and newer will give you the Direct Injection Engine and eliminate the IMS issues. I think the bumpers and lights were also updated in 09.

Whats the reason for wanting a Boxster if I may ask? Lots of Boxster versions out there.. the regular, the S, The RS60, the spyder and the new "black edition". Plus a restyled boxster is due in a year or two(?)

I would consider an S since you are moving from a Carrera. I too think the drop back to 240ish hp might make itself present quite quickly.

Do you want PDK? Tip? Manual?

I have owned two Boxsters in the past and really miss them. The extra HP of the Carrera overkill for my daily driving. The Boxster is more fun to drive than the Carrera and for me that's what it's about!

First year 987 model 2005's had the IMS issue (Intermediate Shaft Failure) which was not corrected until mid-2006 with a larger seal area. Since an IMS failure means a new engine, ($$$$$) the safe bet is on 2007 or newer.

Gen 1 987's can have oil starvations issues when run on the track, though not in spirited daily driving. If that's a consideration, then buy a Gen 2 car which started with the 2009 model year.

There is a bit of misinformation here. The IMS was not updates with the 2006 Boxster. The RMS seal was updated with the very early start of the 2006 MY.

IMS and RMS are 2 very different things.

Racer, If you can get the top down on that 944 then we might talk.

Default 09+

Having just bought an 08 S with tip/S wish I waited for the 09 w/ dual clutch and extra gears. Bought mine thru CarMax w/8K miles (very good experience and saved 20K off new but look around and you might do better) I'm happy with my purchase don't get me wrong but 09 + for a little extra MPG Hwy , and direct injection would nice (so far 23 mpg is best I've seen).

Default Porsche dealer on Laurens Rd has a nice RS60

I took it for a spin today and would have bought it on the spot if it was a 6 speed. Not much inventory in Gville, need to look in Atlanta or Charlotte.
