The dealer I purchased my Spyder from insisted that PTS wouldn't be available based upon what PCNA and Germany was telling them but I do think that production will continue throughout this year and into early next year. Will be interesting to see how many are built before the 981 is introduced.

Gents: We know what PCNA has said and will continue to say about PTS....until they are ready to announce it publicly, probably just as MY2012 Spyder allocations are made available to dealers. They don't want to mess up their remaining MY2011 allocations & deliveries. They don't want cancellations or customer's passing on delivery thinking MY'12 will offer more color choices, which as you know is easy to do with our consumer friendly US laws, regardless of deposits taken by dealers. MY2011 Spyder production, which is currently available in a very limited color palette, continues until next June or so. Once the bulk of these MY2011 Spyders have been produced and delivered, you will see PCNA make the anticipated PTS announcement.
Remember the Cayman R is a MY2012, so 987 production will continue pass this summer in any case, no? Why not offer a MY2012 Spyder with the attraction of a Paint to Sample option and perhaps additional standard colors like the ones offered on the Cayman R? We will know for sure (within four months or less) if there will be a MY2012 Spyder and whether we will have PTS for both the Cayman R and the Spyder starting with production this summer!
The excuse PCNA is giving that Meteor Grey was the Detroit 'color' theme and not to read anything into is, in my opinion, a clever red herring. The 'confidential' order guide released by Planet 9 clearly anticipated both PTS and a customized color interior option for the Cayman R. This document couldn't have been a mistake. If the Cayman R will get PTS and more, it will make double the sense for the Spyder, which has 50% less exterior color choices. So I don't believe for a moment what PCNA is saying. We will revisit this topic soon on this forum, I can assure you. z356

If there is something sure now is that nothing is 'sure' at Porsche anymore. If used to be that Porsche would start all new model years just after summer vacations at Zuffenhausen. Today, it shifts according to models, demand, and who knows what. Last year Porsche delivered MY2010 .2 gt3 RS starting around late February/early March in the US. A few months later, seems like in late May or early June, it started delivering MY2011 RS's, even before the summer had started! Some thought that meant RS production would end by late summer, so they needed to squeeze them all in by that date. But no, MY2011 gt3 RS's were produced into October of 2010 (are we all done yet?). Now we have rumors that there will be a late MY2011 Limited Edition .2 997 gt3 RS (500 examples) done this summer, just before all 997 production ends. What does that tell us? Porsche is now totally unpredictable regarding Model Year start dates.
Someone here reported Porsche UK announced PTS will be available on the Spyder starting in July. My own guess is that Porsche will introduced the MY2012 Spyder as soon as PTS and the new standard colors (in addition to those offered in MY'11) are ready to go into series production. If they get that ready by April or May, we may see the MY2012 Spyder start then. If not, by July at the latest. z356
