New Boxster Spyde Color?

The bigger problem is this, when is the Spyder production going to end? Some say that allocations are going to remain very limited and that Porsche doesn't have plans to increase it but at the same time why would they advertise the car at the show if supplies are limited?
As for advertising at the show, the Spyder is a halo car, and will continue to be shown to draw attention to the Boxster line (not unlike how the GT2RS is continuing to be displayed, even though all allocations have been spoken for).

Who would have thought that buying a new car would be just as difficult as trying to find a perfect 20 year old garage queen!
Alan your right, PTS may not be possible if production is to end by early next year unless the 981 Boxster is being built at a different factory (which is possible).

Yes, PTS will be possible starting on delivered Spyders next Fall!
I posted this a few days ago on another thread:
"With the announcement of the MY2012 Cayman R last November, I anticipate we will also have a MY2012 Spyder, on the existing 987 platform. I also believe that PTS (Paint to Sample) will be allowed shortly on BOTH Spyder & Cayman R, possibly coinciding with date that the MY2012 Spyder begin production in late Spring early Summer of 2011.
The first hint of PTS on these models came in the 'confidential' Cayman R order guide leaked by Planet 9 over one month ago. The second hint was the Meteor Grey Spyder at the Detroit Auto Show, which listed the cost of the exterior paint as $5,500, exactly what Porsche charges for PTS and not the lesser $3140 that pertains to a designated 'Special Color', like Cream White. Porsche would not be bothering doing this 'teasing' unless: a) MY2011 & 2012 Spyder production is continuing; and b) PTS in different colors (like Meteor Grey) was not already approved for series production... I am very confident that PTS will become a reality soon on both the Spyder and the Cayman R! z356"
Now we have word here from someone in the UK that we will see PTS on Spyder starting in July.
And I bet we will see PCNA announced the availability of PTS in the very near future (e.g. once all MY2011 Spyder allocations are gone). They just don't want to 'confuse' potential customers of the remaining MY2011 Spyder allocations with thought of delaying their purchase and waiting for PTS. That is also why they haven't said a word about a MY2012 Spyder, hoping that most folks think Spyder production will end shortly.
Now, let's turn to the following point by Alan:
"Historically, Porsche has needed six months for PTS. Six months from July puts us into calendar year 2012, and well past the expected introduction of the new platform (Frankfurt for the 911; in 2004, the 987 came very quickly after the 997)". Forget 'history', what is being said is that PTS might start to be produced after July of 2011, not that orders will be taken then and the actual production & painting will happen six months later!
PTS is needed in the MY2012 Spyder to bring some needed different colors and excitement back to this model on its final 'run'. We will see PTS Spyders done from July until end of production, which I believe will be in the Spring of 2012. All 987 Spyders will be done in Zuffenhausen. All 987 Cayman R's will be done in Finland. We don't yet know when the new platform Boxsters and Caymans will done at Karmann facility, but that is not going to affect the 987 production for the limited period left of production under the current platform.
Marine Blue, my suggestion for you is to wait for a MY2012 Spyder allocation and order it PTS. Saludos, z356

Steven: Paint To Sample will be available in all markets and for sure in the US. That is exactly why Porsche went through the trouble of doing a PTS Meteor Grey Spyder for the Detroit Auto Show and putting its $5,500 PTS price up front & center in the 'sticker' on display! z356

If that is the case that PTS will be available later this year and in the USA I will be placing an order in July and my current Guards Red/Black Spyder will be going on to the selling block...I guess I can simply leave it in the garage as is with all the snow and stuff, it has not been outside the garage since it arrived 12/24/10 with miles it has on it from the dealer which are approximately 35...

what color PTS?
Only1,
what color PTS are you getting?
I think Speed Yellow would look great, but the price of admission is pretty steep.
Still surprised they don't offer more color choices for the Spyder a la Cayman R

I'm also curious what color Only1Buck has in mind.
I have two different shades of blue in mind but I'm not sure I'm willing to take the risk of waiting.

Thank you. I owe you one!
I walked into the dealer and for the first time I saw Basalt Black in person. It is an absolutely stunning color and it immediately went to the top of the list of colors for the Spyder. I lost interest in PTS after seeing the Basalt, for me its perfect since it gives the depth I want and still highlights the lines on the car.
I also picked full leather, sport exhaust, a/c, radio and a few other smaller options.
Feel like a kid in a candy store.
