If it's new that's actually a great price. Used RS60's with about 10k or more miles are in the mid 50k range. At least here they are.

reactivating an old thread...

I recently junked that awful CDR-24 stereo and replaced it with a Pioneer AVIC-x120bt unit. What a difference! Part of the fun is you can load your own splash (start up) screen onto it, so I used the wallpaper that Porsche made for the DE2 cars ....

That looks really cool. Was a regular audio shop able to do the swap or was it done at a dealer?

BTW: One year of ownership and a year ago I opened this thread I still have not seen another PDE2. I've attended many PCA events and Porsche drives this car sure attract a lot of attention. So far I have just over 3200 miles.

I did the install myself, it wasn't as difficult as putting in the Escort 9500ci radar/laser unit, but it still took about 8 hours work to do it right (I could do one now in about half the time). Makes a huge difference in the sound quality, even with stock speakers and amp.

Only (32) DE2's in the USA, and (18) in Canada. Don't think we'll see ourselves coming and going very often! Boxster Spyders are as common as Chevy's next to our rides...lol

Hi Duane and Cas, I have about 2600 miles on my DE2 now and really enjoy the car. I still have the stripes on the hood and trunk that have some discoloration and when spring comes around I am thinking about making a waranty claim on the stripes to see if Porsche might replace them.

Now that you have some mileage under your belt, any thoughts about the white wheels? Do you still like them?

I don't really like them. The car looks good the way it is but the wheels get dirty in 1 day even with Rejex on them. When I first got the car I was wanting to paint them black and think that would still look good but there are so few of these cars around that I feel I should leave it the way it came from the factory.

Don't feel too badly, even in silver with rejex on them, these wheels look dirty fast. I've seen them in black, and while they may be easier to live with unfortunately IMHO they really look ugly in black. Just keep using rejex and wash them regularly.

For me I really got used to them and got to liking them. I've attended several Porsche meets and it's been a magnet and praised. As for the wheels, yes you have to work to keep it clean. I have to wash it once a week as a minimum to keep it clean. It's not a daily driver so I don't mind.

My car came from the factory with an upgrade to the Carrera sport wheels, for a $ 495 charge on the window sticker :

http://www.wheelenhancement.com/inde...lDetail&id=166

I had actually tried to buy the car Chris now has from Porsche of Arlington, so I saw the white wheels on it (that dealer was holding tough on the price at the time). My car came out of Naples FL Porsche, which is ironic because I live 8 miles from the Porsche of Arlington dealership! I have to say, I really like the Carrera Sport wheels on it, and I'd not have tolerated those white wheels very long, simply because of the brake dust issues.

There's a set of aftermarket ones for sale right now on Planet 9 if you guys like the look of the Sports - take those white ones off and park 'em for when you sell the car one day. Price is right!

http://www.planet-9.com/classifieds/...oxster-s&cat=6

Did you guys get the watch that came with the car? Its a pretty costly watch, over $ 2K if you buy one from a watch dealer and of course its matched to the car as a special edition. I wore mine about three days then parked it away, I'm hard on watches. I'm not sure if our cars will ever be worth more than any other optioned-up 2008 Boxster S, but one never knows. If someone, somewhere - just has to have one and is willing to pay for it, I figure they'll want the watch as well.

I'm at 7,600 miles on mine now, did the first oil change on it as well as all mods myself. Aftermarket add-ons I installed on the car include a Factory Short Shift Kit, Factory Colored Wheel Center Caps, Factory Euro White Side Marker Lamps, an Alcantara console lid off a GT3, Passport 9500ci radar/jammer installed, Pioneer AVIC-X120CT Stereo installed, Rear Speaker Kit (factory) installed, and a stupid-expensive front license plate mounting system used on Corvettes. I've taken great pains to make all mods either factory pieces or reversible with a minimum amount of evidence they were ever there.

I did one track day in mine this fall, for only two sessions when they let us Instructors go out. I prefer to drive dedicated track cars rather than shiny new Porsches that I can't afford to trash, but I wanted to see how the car felt at 10/10ths so ran it about 40 minutes. It's tremendously capable at the track, and only really needs a LSD rear and some better brake pads to make it a track monster. I found it MUCH easier to drive at speed and its considerably faster than the 993 C4S I used to have (that ole 993 sure was purdy though)....

Duane

Thanks for the tip on the wheels. I just sent him a note. He lives near me.
